DMADKAT
You guys , don't give up on this winter. I remember 1988 / 1989 winter when it was warm almost all the way through January then it went BAM! we had two back to back weekend snowstorms at beginning of February, an ice storm in March and a snowfall of more than an inch in April. This is why I believe in the borrowed day theory. The weather very rarely can go much more then the 6 to 8 week pattern before it breaks down . It has gone up to 12 weeks , but that is rare. The winter will come sooner or later and it looks like it could come right in the meat of the calender. Late January through February into March. I have seen this winter before. The warm November is a good sign for a cold winter. If November cold then winter starts too late. Like a brutal spring that we all hate. I have worked outside for forty years as a new construction plumber and I have seen some crazy winters. I LAUGH WHEN I SEE ALL THESE YOUNG METS WITH ALL THIS FANCY EQUIPMENT BLOW SO MANY FORECAST. IT IS INDEED FUN TO WATCH ! Take it from me. The weather is gonna do what it wants. There is way to much we don't know about the weather yet, but we are learning. Coach McGuirk
In the 2006-2007 season, our first measurable snowfall came in April.
DMADKAT
Yeah I remember that. That was a first for me. Now that was a terrible snowless winter till that . I will be 50 years old in May but I could be 150 years old and not see that again. Lets hope this winter don't pull any of that crap.

A Christmas to remember indeed, as I sit here in shorts and no shirt at my computer this year. Its 67 degrees outside right now at 11:03 at Norfolk International. This Christmas is flip flopping like a bad politician!
Billabong
Could see some severe into the area Tuesday. CAPE is limited, but shear is great.... there's a screaming 75 knot low level jet.

SeVa
If this next batch of cold air is really as cold as recent runs are suggesting, we might be in for some bay effect snow showers.

DMADKAT
Yes, it was a total sudden change outside at work today after my long 12 day vacation. Norfolks low was 24 but heard there was some teens inland. We had snow showers in Chesapeake at my house last night. The Great bridge section in south Chesapeake , they said on channel 3 news had a dusting . It coming guys! I've seen this winter before. DT hinting at some changes in the polar vortexes showing up on the models in 10 to 15 days out. At least something appears to be trying to kick this pattern out in the long run. Fingers crossed. I know one thing for sure and that is we have had NO BORROWED DAYS THIS WINTER. Remember that. Warm November bodes well for chilly winter. I THE PLUMBER KNOWS . 50 Years old and watching and working every winter for 41 years.

As for DT, he's a joke. The pattern into January doesn't look very good for snow here.

The pattern into into January doesn't look very good for snow here. Yeah I see that band coming in but with a dew point of 13, its gonna be hard to get it to the ground, but with our warm waters it could increase the moisture enough to allow a little heavier precip to moisting up the air a touch. DT is not only one talking about pattern change. He does have a good reason to believe this could happen. His web site wxrisk.com explains why this could happen. Even a plumber like me can understand how he explains the weather. His forecast record I don't know much about, but he does put excitement in to the weather and explains it very well to the average laymen. like me. DMADKAT
Just reading online about the Great Cold Blast of February 1899 that put even Florida at -2 zero. Not much before or after that cold blast. I recall it saying that at beginning of the month (Feb), there was an initial shot of cold air that preceded the main event. The whole thing lasted about two weeks , but after it, it returned to normal with no more cold air to follow the rest of the winter. Norfolks record lows for the dates Feb 10 thru feb 14 are brutal. They were 5 degrees on Feb 10, then 8 on Feb 11 then 14, 9 ,3 the next three nights after 7.9 inches of snow fell on Feb 12 and 4.5 inches more on Feb 13. and that was just a glancing blow because the meat of the air mass went right into the panhandle of Florida. It was like the great freeze of January 22 1985 of -3 at Norfolk. No winter before it and no winter after it. Wow , could something like that happen again this year? THERE IS STILL TIME FOR THE GREAT FLIP !!
