It looks like have a new AWOS location online in Hampton Roads at HR Executive Airport (Northwest Chesapeake).

Just 2 miles to my SE.

Cool, what is its identifier?....I will look it up or get vortex95 to look into it. The Chesterfield County airport finally came online about this time last year.

Does it report hourly obs data with precip type? Or is the closest station RIC?

I believe this one just reports sky condiiton....not the weather type.

By the way, if we know what the three letter identifier is for the HR executive airport, you can use the link above, but just change the three letters after "K".

It turns out that vortex95 posted about this on May 3rd here.

So.....here we go!

Really busy days so far this week. Especially yesterday with those downburst winds. 78mph at the mesonet site at the CBBT (over the open water) and 70 mph at KNTU! Wow!

Measured 58 mph at WAVY next to the Ntelos Pavilion, which has ripped once again.

Oh, and ORF tied the record yesterday at 92°F.

Thanks for the info, Had to immediatly shut down computer at work and move away from the window I sit right next too. The tree outside my window looked like it was about to come right through and the lightning flashes and hail was enough to say, i'll get back to work after the storm passes. The boss agreed. haha.

Hey all, It has been a while. I finally found some time to edit and post my video of the May 24, 2011 Severe Thunderstorm to Youtube. I had an epic moment with a lightning bolt literally in front of me caught on camera. Check it out here and let me know what you guys think.

Nice... sounds like it was about 0.1-0.2 miles away!

great video. hopefully we will have dry weather ahead.

So we can fall further into a drought? We are -6.59" below normal for the year at Norfolk. -7.33" at Elizabeth City, which is now considered to be in a severe drought. I talked to one of my friends dad recently, who is a farmer in Suffolk. He's really praying for some rain.

Nice vid Coastal.

It is pretty ridiculous. Climo says it's either tropical rainforest wet or desert dry in the Southeast/Southern Mid-Atlantic during the summer, usually.

Yeah, the main bolt was exactly up the street as I have pics of the tree it demolished. The bolt in my front yard was likely a branching out of the main one. Crazy moment for me with respect to lightning.

It's a video artifact... it was not real. Get 'em all the time.

I don't know. I have to disagree as when I slow it down to multiple frames per second you can see the bolt entirely from the sky to the yard. In any case, the video has over 60 views on youtube! haha
