Ginx snewx
http://www.njfreeways.com/weather/1994/04-Jan-94-850MillibarMaps.html A prolonged period of snow, which started late on January 6th, became heavy around noon on the 7th, and continued into the morning of the 8th, produced snowfall totals of from 13 to 18 inches along and north of the Massachusetts Turnpike. Even Cape Cod and the Islands received six inches of snow before precipitation turned to rain on the evening of January 7th. Snow changed briefly to rain over southeastern Massachusetts as far north as Boston during the morning of January 8th as temperatures rose to the upper 30s before falling quickly back to the 20s and teens, causing a quick freeze. The fast drop in temperature resulted in very poor road conditions when snow and slush froze quite suddenly. Road crews struggled to remove it. This was the third major snowstorm in a ten day period for much of the state. The National Weather Service at Boston received 16.2 inches of snow for a 10-day total of 35 inches. In addition, total snow depth on the ground reached 20 inches. This was the greatest snow depth ever recorded so early in the season. Other total amounts included: Worcester, 13 inches; Amesbury, 10 inches; Taunton, 7.9 inches; Westfield, 14.5 inches; North Amherst, 16 inches; E. Otis, 15 inches. Several days after the storm, the roof of a supermarket in Agawam caved in under the weight of the heavy snow
Clinch Leatherwood
The comforting news is that at 120 hrs the error averaged only about 200 miles this last storm. Lock up 6-12+ can worry about the details later. Dense cold air Coming down from the nw ftw.

We all know the deal with day 5 progs, but considering the pattern this season, no one would be suprised if the final result was similar to this. CoastalWx
Canadian would probably be a nice snow event near and north of the Pike. I don't know though..this looks to be quite a mess, I think.

The hope is that with the PV, it will probably be forced to go over the canal or something like that. But this is an iffy system, especially for me. 40/70 Benchmark
Ray, what did the 12Z euro show? Not bad....about half the snow as the 00z GFS...brought sleet to just N of the NH border...still cooooold at the surface, though.

40/70 Benchmark
Scott, I could see you with some straight rain, but like I said...should be relegated to inside of rt 128...unless this thing really phases early.
SnowMan
When you say inside of 128 do you mean outside of 95 and 93? Because where I am at 95 and 128 are closer to the coast...I am just west of rt 1 and rt 95 on rt

Yea even in the Jan 94 you flipped to rain for a bit but flash froze, that storm sticks in my mind only colder for longer and further south, epic depths and antecedent cold. Yeah I find it hard for you to go above freezing unless it really charges up. I can't complain if I briefly go to rain. This winter has been great. Hopefully it doesn't go more north, but nervous.
