Ryan - It has been wild here...looking at the radar the last five hours there is going to be a huge difference between Darien and Westport. Just the way the bands set up! Just measured and made sure the amount did not include the old snow base... I guess we will wait and see the official report. Regardless its wild!!! Between 12 and 1am we had 4.5 inches in an hour!!!!

totals around philly generally 12-14 inches... most fell between 7pm-12am tonight... forecasts were generally underdone

i think CT up into C-MA has a shot at similar ranges if not more given where the heaviest bands have set up

interestingly, no widespread thunder/lightning reports from SNE yet as was the case further south

I don't think it's that suprising.....everything was timed better for them.

The New Hampton-Meredith-Center Harbor line up here has been getting plastered for the last 2 hrs. I'm on the southern edge of the band and getting great snow growth. Maybe the N winds are actually blowing some of that my way.Sanbornton is down to 3/10SM vis at the RWIS.

It's been magnificent. The air has been thick with jumbo flakes calmly drifting down. Looks like it's starting to fall apart now, though.

It's possible. Sometimes it's hard this early in the AM when we're seeing so few reports in general.

Yes they had the best dynamics...we had them in the Jan 12 event...Miller B in the Jan 12 event...surprise surprise. We get the leftovers in a Miller A...but this one is doing very well. We wont jackpot but we should do well...that is all we ask for in these type of events.

I had 9 at 12, another poster had 10.5 at 12:30 in FFLD, we've been rocking 3-4" per hour...it's within the realm of possibility if just taken. I'm still destroying here a little more than my neighbors at the moment.

It was taken a min before I posted. That was no joke.

This banding is the most intensive rates I have ever seen.

I'm not complaining....jackpot in my area will be arounf Tynsoborough, Pepperell, Ayer.....but I should do ok.

1/2 mod 1/4 heavy 1/8 SN++ right now my vis is under 100 feet at times

you made the bolded up ;)

6.75" from the second part here, 9.75" total.

Mod snow again.

What are the definitions of mod vs heavy snow in terms of visibility and approximately what kind of rates would each entail?

Mod is <=1/2SM and > 1/4SM

Heavy is <= 1/4SM

Estimating intensity based on accums is trickier as it tends to depend on snow growth. I'd say with 10:1 snows 1"+/hr is +SN and 0.5-1"/hr is moderate. I have a couple of road stations nearby that report vis so I tend to take an average of the two and compare to radar to estimate my vis.

Told you you'd be SNE jackpot you SOB.

I think east of me gets better...but yeah, I'm hammering away right now like no other place except north of me in Holden and Princeton. Deep down I was kind of hoping for a Dec 92 where it was only elevations back on the progs by the Euro when it was marginal snow for SNE and everyone was worried about sleet and rain. But we said back then it might go cooler and it did.

I havent been a jackpot since Mar 1, 2008 (remember the busted clipper where Drag said NW RI would get in on CF banding?)...the banding ended up over my house. I'm hoping this band rots over me and then I can claim a jackpot again, but I think places SW of me have already had the better of it.
