noctilucent
This storm is in my top 5 easily due to thunder/lightning and intensity of snowfall. We were topping 2.5" an hour between 9PM and 11PM. Agreed here. I'd go 96, PDII (03), Christmas 1966 and this one. My 15.7" wasn't the greatest ever, but sometimes its not the destination, but the journey, that is the most fascinating. And I have to say the same about THIS winter. Yes, I had 51" last year, but there were long stretches of boredom and frustration. This winter, is, certainly, the best since 02-03, even if it stopped here (which appears it will not). A truly memorable wintery period.

NJwinter23
Hey Ray, The PNS seems to have only taken my report 13.5 from Part 2 last night for Holmdel. We had about 4" from part 1 too. It appears that some of those reports of 17-18 inches are storm totals for parts 1 and 2 combined? If so my county had more like 15-18.

Are most people sending in totals from morning AND night portions of the storm or just the 2nd portion? By the time I got home from work around 6:30ish there was like 2 inches of slop left from the morning batch. My measurement of 13 was for only the 2nd batch. Based on other area obs from the morning, we appeared to have received about 3 or 4 inches from that first batch. So technically we had 17 inches then. But again, since I wasn't home to accurately measure it, I couldn't send in my report of the first part of the storm. Remember, we had a good deal of rain in between those 2 batches of snow too. Holly I would presume is counting this as one event since it had one continuous warning and precip was essentially continuous (if very light for a time). (Mike or Tony correct me if I'm wrong). The total I called in was for the entire event starting early Wednesday morning. You are right though, some people may well be calling in totals for just the second half and not telling the Mt. Holly folks. When I map this (tomorrow most likely) I intend to cover the entire event as a single storm.
NJHurricane
I was saying go west for days. Even did a map in the map thread. Plus I have been saying this west trend in the other threads and getting beat up pretty bad to the point where the mods were deleting my posts when I mentioned JB was looking at maybe up to 18 inches for us. As I said in one of my posts- A memphis low = a big snow for us. I will stand behind this every time. we try not to let threads turn in to an argument over a single met...JB and DT stuff seems to derail things....banter threads have looser standards so might be better to post extended jb analysis there

Quakertown needs snow
this storm gets a 4 out of 5 star review by me. 5th star would have been for blocking!
JCT777
this storm gets a 4 out of 5 star review by me. 5th star would have been for blocking! It was basically a shorter duration version of the Feb 11-12, 2006 storm. Same type of dynamics in many of the same areas. So I agree with your review. This snow should hang around longer than the Feb 2006 snow did, as temps won't be as warm in the coming days as they were after that storm. pazzo83
Nice to see you guys get smoked too. 15" in PHL, awesome. I feel like maybe the pattern is opening up so a lot more of us get significant snows. Even my folks down in VA got 10-12 inches.

noctilucent
Nice to see I came in within 0.2" of the KNXX ASOS...I measured a total of 16.4". I got within half-an-inch (I measured a total of 15.7")....that's gotta count for something! (B minus, maybe). I like your use of the vertical bars to deliniate your different events (now that we are limited to like 2 lines in our signatures!). I may shamelessly rip that off! Hurricane Agnes
Hmm.... blowtorch? Got a call from one of sisters who is in Upper Darby - she said they got at least 15". She just got done clearing her car and driveway. She follows tombo's reports.
Thunder Road
does sun reflecting off snow heat us temp sensors more than usual? I'm down 1.8° in 15 mins, from a high of 38.7°as soon as clouds rolled back in

Short duration - but intensity approaching Feb 1982 - although nothing really comes close to that one.
Ralph Wiggum
Fwiw, the closest comparison I can come up with for this storm in terms of the insane snowfall rates that - can personally recall is the Feb 83 storm where we saw 3-4" per hour rates (though not in such short a period). That storm was also wet snow and thunder here in SE PA and the snow piles today bring me back to earlier time in my life. Awesome storm...one of the best! Isotherm
Total was 16" here in Villanova. Back home, parents measured 16" in Colts Neck w/ the 3" added on from the day (so 13" part 2).
