baroclinic_instability
Is that NWS code for "holy sh** there is so much snow right now"? Insane. Only other 5" snincr remark I have ever seen was from a lake band.
tmagan
Probably could use a new thread.
jm1220
This night makes up for my relatively snowless 5 winters in State College and then some!! So glad I'm back home.
Quincy
5" per hour would not surprise me with radar returns up around 40dbz, if not higher, especially when coordinating with vicinity reports.
ZeeTwentyFour
This band that's extending itself into CT seems to want to redevelop over Nassau County. I'll take it!! looks like its all pulling out of Nassau in the next 40 minutes to me

danstorm
lines up with the measurement estimate I just came up with. 13.0 inches actually, estimated 7 inches from midnight to 2:15am, isn't far off from DOT total... Yeah, and I'm a bit south of you ... the radar was slightly better down here for a time. How great has this period of winter been dude? Like living in Valdez, AK or something. This is my favorite part of the storm... best snow growth, pushing 14, just incredible. For the record, I have seen: - 20-24" with the Boxing Day (NYC, no way to tell) - 10" from the Norlun (near DXR) - 22" from the 01/12 event (DXR) - 3" last Thursday (NYC) - 1" yesterday morning (NYC) - Now 15-16 from this MF beast (DXR) I've now witnessed ~ 75" in 31 days. Lord, take me now.
SnowGoose69
The ISP observer might have mean 4/019 and not 5/019....4/019 is simply that 19 inches is on the ground.
A-L-E-X
can you explain what that mans? 5 inches per hour LGA reported 3" in last hour so they are at 15.6" JFK reported 2" in last hour so they are at 9.7" lol JFK makes me laugh sometimes.
