The temperature is above 0 C at the 800 mb level and the 750 mb level, I think.

oh, so the winds up there mustnt be northerly then.

btw did you look at the radar? Looks like the storm is being torn in two lol. I hope we get in on those brighter yellow bands to the south.

lol the only way that 12-15 inches is going to verify is if it snows until 5 am or even daybreak. Who knows, it might happen.....

That also accounts for todays 2 - 5 inches. But yeah we'd need to snow beyond 2/3 AM. I think 4 - 8 is good totals for the second part. The sleet ate away at a few inches but this mornings snows made up for that. 1 - 3 this weekend (Sat)

sorry, sort of OT, but where do you find those snowfall maps on noaa website? Ive looked and for the life of me i havent a clue

go here:

http://www.erh.noaa.gov/okx/

and then look for the "Storm Total Forecast" tab, just above the "Graphical Forecast Images"...

speaking of which, i don't think we'll get to 14", much less a foot... although 6-10" is still nice i guess...

Heaviest snow of the storm - almost as heavy as the 12/26 blizzard - simply pouring snow out there at about 2" per hour rates. Could easily pick up 8" or more tonight at this rate on top of our 5.5" form part 1 and the 2" or so that have fallen since then. Awe inspiring out there - about to go for a shovel at halftime of the RU-Cincy hoops game (we're actually up 4 near the end of the first half on the road - Mike Rice will be the saviour of RU hoops).

Looks like the all snow line is finally starting to pick up the pace a bit and has crossed into SW Nassau and through the 5 towns. It looks like its between Hewlett and Oceanside right now and not quite to Long Beach yet, JM :P Should be there before 10.

I disagree, Ace. I have been snizzling for the past several hours... as soon as it flipped to snow, the Snow Gods busted a nut in my 'hood....and it's only been about 20 minutes and I have 1.5" NEW on the ground... the best part is, we are still getting heavy precip from the East/Southeast, and the pivot has just BARELY begun, so I see this all heading East and crushing you...also note the backbuilding into PA on radar. Even those that escape the massive band setting up will see some nice accums through about 3am.

we wasted a lot of the QPF on sleet (east of NYC) no way we get to 14"
