RU848789
THUNDERSLEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!! During our drive back from Jose Tejas, at about 8:00 pm on 287 in Edison, in the midst of the heaviest sleet I've ever seen, we heard a huge clap of thunder and saw a brilliant flash of lightning right over head immediately afterwards. CCB FTW!!!! Roads are treacherous out there and the layer of freezing rain from 6:30-7:30 pm with a layer of sleet on top (about 1" fell in the past hour) are going to make for a much tougher snow removal process (very dense foundation on the major highways, even). Just changed over to all snow as of 8:30 pm and pouring big flakes. 29F here in Metuchen. Had 5.5" in Part 1 and have about 1" in part 2 (mostly sleet). It's basically running from western staten island to manhattan to northern brooklyn and northern queens.

JFK went due north at 8:40 and started reporting ice pellets. The line is close to Coney Island now; it just crossed the Verrazano.
