jasonli18t
is it me or is the precip shield dwindling down to a small ball? i see this as well...most models indicate a pretty classic but relatively narrow ccb setting up and perhaps it is starting to do that now. eduggs
There was some freezing drizzle in midtown as I walked from work to the subway. Pretty sure the rain is just the result of insufficient lift and/or saturation in the snow crystallization zone. In other words, the lift is mostly low level, where it's relatively warm. I don't think it's above freezing anywhere in the column, except possibly right at the surface. 0z soundings would confirm. As soon as deeper lift arrives from the SW, any lingering drizzle or mix will switch to snow.
Sey-Mour Snow
this is exactly why I was saying what I said last night and earlier today... its possible that SOME areas eclipse their totals from 12/26 with this event. especially on LI yes long island looks great!! with most spots around 4 or 5" correct? NittanyWx
In the forecast office for yet another major storm. I'll be checking in periodically throughout the night. Any and all obs are appreciated. Just got off of the phone with JFK, warned them about that cell... Still think 6-12 local 12+ area wide. Waiting for frontogenesis signatures to lock down that deformation band and will adjust accordingly.

Bluebythec
Southern Monmouth County - Manasquan. Just closed the business and saw my first lightning of the night. Didn't hear any thunder though. It is brutal out there the winds have kicked up in the last half an hour. The parking lot is now glazed nicely into a skating rink!
