.The school districts are so easy in the HV right up to Albany... ..though tomorrow will be justified.

The kids here had school today all day through 5 to 6 inches of snowfall. They got them in when there was only a couple inches accumulation and then it had lightened after noon so no the buses ran normally going home. Tomorrow I'm sure will be a snow day.

We had a new school district chancellor a few years ago from the lake snow belt in NYS. One of the first things he said was the district takes too many snow days. That stance lasted until the first storm and he found out he had no say, it’s the transportation director’s call.

Some very light sleet and freezing drizzle atm

sleet, sleet and more sleet.

2 inches of the stuff and counting.. At least it is not freezing rain, and hopefully we get dry slotted before that happens.

Yeah and what a b**ch to clean up! I just did my driveway as I'm getting to attempt getting my wife to work in Newburgh. Oh how I long for those 6" fluff storms of a few weeks ago....

It's pouring outside and has been for almost two hours. Temp is slowly rising, at 23 now. Icing has commenced in a big way. Branches are a little over 1/8" thick and flat surfaces are 3/8". I tried to walk to my corner and couldn't make it. I wonder if I'll see a plow today?

Over this way too. Sleet has flipped over ZR.

Hey OT, but have you checked out Billy Joe's RibWorks at the waterfront yet?

I can't say that I have, have you?

The roads were steadily improving in my travels to Newburgh and back. I did see a buffoon though on a recently plowed NYS 208 going about 10 miles an hour with the passenger side tires in his lane and the drivers side in mine. I stopped as there was no one behind me and just stared at him in awe. I wasn't in any real danger as he was going slow and I had room to bail if he came towards me. As he drove past me I looked over and his entire windsheild was a sheet of ice, not even partilally melted at the bottom or anything. I just stared and shook my head as he finally pulled off into a parking lot. I made eye contact with one of the guys stuck behind him and the 2 of us just shook our heads and threw our arms up in the air.

You see every kind of wacky driver in these snow events. Last week in that storm that hit NYC hard, I was there (though escaped before it got too bad). I'd say about 80% of the people are sensible drivers. Then you have 10% that drive about 15 mph with their hazards on like they are absolutely terrified. You have about 10% that are crazy cowboys moving in and out of traffic and passing on the inside despite the conditions.

Rick,

How did you make out last night and today, with the storm? seems like it was a bit overhyped and totals busted low in the Albany area due to sleet invasion... I guess the SW flow in the mid levels always ends up warming the column more than the models predict..

Only 4.5" (maybe 5 when I measure again) from the whole thing overnight. It was snow from midnight to 8ish AM, but only 4" to show for it. Then sleet from 8-11 AM....ended as a few flakes again. But close to 10" for the two days and no ice. It could be worse. :)

Even if it had been all snow it never would have exceeded 6" probably. QPF was way too high.

Yes, and the ratios were pretty terrible too i would imagine. 10" is not bad though... Only 6.5" here total, but I wasn't really expecting any more than that.

yeah my 2 event total here was around 7.7" ... Qpf was way overdone. I rememeber at one point Upton had us here in western orange receiving 14.8" with some ice accretion as well..
