The Hudson Valley Thread Part 2

Recommended Posts

I had 34 early this morning and still low 40s into the early afternoon, then the warm sector broke through for several hours and it jumped to 59, a few heavy showers with rumbles of thunder and we started crashing again. Strong west winds now and back down to 42 at 11 PM.

Nice storm system overall.... 12 inches plus of snow across Quebec and 85F+ around DC....nice Spring contrasts.

I wound up putting some seed down Sunday afternoon and no fert.

This thread is dead lol. Its hard to get excited about cloudy with rain/showers everyday :arrowhead: GFS is not indicating any major changes to the regime either - its a good spring to be a frog.

Very gusty here today. Lots of flurries and snow showers pretty much all day, but nothing that could possibly accumulate. The high was 41. Now 30...so a hard freeze one time anyway.

Rather gusty out there today. The grass is greening up nicely, won't be long now for the first mow of the season but not this wet weekend coming up.

I had to cut the southside of my yard on Sunday. In some spots it was just to even things out, it wasn't a full mow, if that makes any sense. I've only put down some starter fertilizer in the larger spots that I had to reseeding. I have crabgrass preventer that I'm going to put down maybe Friday after this weeks rains.

I had hopes for that cell lol. It came thru Goshen with 3 minutes of rain and gusty winds. Kind of a disappointment. More to come today.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just posting to say hi. Last post here was just about 2 weeks ago. Nice string of great weather to clean up from the winter. :)

Not much to comment on these days and I think many of our winter posters are just that, interested mainly in just snowstorms.

It has been a great stretch of weather and I'm having a few people over this afternoon to take advantage of it. It's unfortunate that the rain is coming for the weekend but I'm not too bummed, I'm looking forward to a watering of everything in the yard and a bit of cleansing of pollen from the air.

A couple of days of rain was one thing but I'm not looking forward to what could be a whole week of rain!

It looks like we stay dry through today anyway. The frontal boundary is hung up well north. That frontal rain won't even affect the HV through much of tomorrow. The new NAM does develop another area of rain tomorrow morning, but maybe I can eek out a few hours and run down and cut the grass in Saugerties..... After that turn out the lights for several days. LOL

Well that was a very poor forecast on my part. LOL It has been horrid here since about 1:00 PM yesterday. Steady rain all afternoon yesterday. It quit for most of the night with just fog. Then steady moderate bands of rain all morning today, a few hour return to the fog/mist after noon and then more showers and one very heavy band. The temperature was in the mid 50s early this afternoon, but has now fallen to a nippy 49.

You might have been a little bit off with the southward extent of the rain, although it does seem as though most of the heavy banding has remained over Northern New York and the St. Lawrence Valley of Quebec.

Everything is to our west so far but we have a ways to go. I have 3.60" for the week and I noticed on the way into work this morning water still running along the hills as if it was raining so the ground is plenty saturated. So things could get interesting later as far as flash flooding too if we get some downpours.

There is a strong upper level disturbance sitting right near the jersey PA border east of Stroudburg PA that is spinning the atmosphere like a top. Tstorms and rain are firing in its rotation.

SPC ...

NERN U.S...

POCKETS OF LOW LVL INSTABILITY SHOULD DEVELOP BENEATH UPR LOW OVER

PARTS OF THE NERN STATES TODAY...WHERE COOL MID LVL TEMPS AND MID

50S F SFC DEWPOINTS MAY YIELD SBCAPE AROUND 500 J/KG. A FEW STORMS

COULD PRODUCE HAIL...PERHAPS MARGINALLY SVR...AND GUSTY WINDS. BUT

WEAK SHEAR NEAR LOW CENTER SHOULD LIMIT STORM

ORGANIZATION/LONGEVITY.

It's been interesting watching it just spin for the past couple of days.

Just thought I'd chime in-down here in Southern Dutchess-by Rt.9 in the Fishkill area-we've got a deluge going on with pea sized hail on the back deck. It's banging away off everything. Interesting afternoon for sure.

Nice!
