The Hudson Valley Thread Part 2

I think the tundra has hit critical mass; it can't absorb much more rain, meltwater and hold itself together, its already the consistency of a snowcone. If the warm ar manages to make it in here and temps get in to the upper 40's or higher tomorrow and it rains it should take a major beating.

When I left work last night, most snow was gone from the ground in Rockland except for plow mounds. Drove thur Goshen Village and a lot ground was visable. Got home and found most of the snow was still intact. Thinner but still there.:axe:

On the bright side, at least I have a few open patches of ground. Maybe it will be gone by April

I also have exposed areas in the yard which are growing in size but I have 6-8" at my snow stakes. I only started putting snow stakes in the ground in the fall of 2009 so I have a few of them to see what is the best location in the yard for them. Besides all of the trees I can get a good amount of wind so I needed to find the least disturbed spots. I found a pretty good spot this year.

If the model trends continue I may be glad that a friend is storing his boat at my place....

Yup, the ground is saturated and a boat load of QPF on tap for the next couple of events. The Wakill river is still up a bit too. :snorkle:

The Wallkill has been clear by me for the past week and close to bankfull, but you don't have to go too far north to hit the ice according to Upton. They say the ice still runs from Walden up to Gardiner. If that's is still the case and based on what the gauge at Gardiner is showing it looks like there could be an ice jam between Walden and Gardiner.

Gone, it's all gone :lightning: From 85% cover on Friday to nothing today. A few piles left but nothing else. What a run, 12/26 to 3/5 with solid snowcover. That's the longest in the 16 years I've been in this house. Luckily the ground stayed frozen, still is actually, so the basement stayed dry :weight_lift:

Now I just don't know what to do, snow tires stay on the car for another week hoping for a wintry day or two or pull 'em and maybe get one more season out of them. Problem is warm pavement kills them faster than anything else but I'd hate to not have them on if I need them.

For the first time since 12/26 all of my snow stakes are free of snow this morning. I still have patches of snow in the yard, a couple on the deep side but there's certainly more grass than snow now.

I am about 70% grass now. Low ground is a swamp.

IMO one more week on the car won't ruin them for next season unless they are already in need of replacement. On the other hand the GFS does not show any threats for mod winter precip.

This can be a classic situation with that low level cold transported down the HV if your winds stay mostly northerly north of the low track. I had some pretty good ice storms in Saugerties that way.

Here we have snow and 31.4F now. Flipped from sleet to snow about 30 minutes ago.

51 at 5pm now down to 36 in Pleasant Valley. Wind is ripping with heavy rain.

That cold air will run right on down the river valley. Radar looks pretty juicey to the south. Enjoy the snow up there. Hope you did not put away the snow shoes. ;)

Reports from friends and family in E. Albany, S. Rensselaer and N. Columbia counties of a switch to heavy freezing rain over the last 2 hrs, with ice accumulating about a tenth of an inch so far!

Take it or leave it, but the 23 Z RUC keeps precipitation as either sleet or freezing rain through 12Z! I'm just waiting to hear about the trees down tomorrow.

Apparently I'm lucking out by a mere handful of miles here 20 miles (or so) due west of KALB. All snow and I'll estimate 3.5 inches. Now 29.8F.

32.9 now. 1.85" and still coming down heavy. Wonder if we ever get into any of the frozen stuff before precip shuts off. It was nice to have all the salt on the roads washed away.
