How do you know if you're under a deform band? Yellow echoes on the radar?

Under dark green (yellow usually indicates sleet) then look outside if it is snowing like crazy you are under a heavy band whether you want to call it a deform band or not.

if you look at water vapor imagery, you can see the deformation zone associated with the upper low. the heaviest banding is setting up over my region and lines up nicely with the latest frontogenetic forcing seen on the near term models. but it is really just looking at the radar at this point.

Absolutely brutal outside...7" with round 1, 1/4" sleet/fzra with intermission, and another 6.5" so far with round 2 (1.9" in last hour).

Heaviest snowfall of the night coming down now, easily 2"/hr. Wind is howling and tree limbs are snapping under the weight. Concerned about power here....lots of tall trees around.
