July 2011 is looking to rank as 3rd hottest on record since 1897. Through yesterday, the average monthly temperature was at 81.7 degrees, which ties 2005. And the year quite possibly will feature the 2nd longest for consecutive number of days with a temperature of 90-degrees or higher. Today is Day 12 and models continue to advertise 90 degree temperatures through the end of next week. If we make it until next Friday, that would make the 2nd longest streak on record.

RIC HIT 103.. WOW

Yeah and you gotta remember, prior to August 8, 2007, it had been over 30 years (July 5, 1977) since we had a temperature higher than 102. We hit 102, once in 1998, 1993, and 1983. That was it. So, really impressive to hit 102 or higher especially TWO summers in a row on multiple different days.

Looks like I hit 89.9 at the house today on short pump.

This is significant because it will end our 90-degree day streak and prevent us from approaching the record. Should be at 86 for the 5pm update, I want to go ahead and say we didn't officially make it to 90 today. Funny given that DC has been flirting with 100 all afternoon.

I gotta say last night was quite comfortable and this morning was too. Looks like the heat tries to come back, but doesn't look nearly as hot as it's been.

Actually got into the 60s officially.

Looks like this July is the 3rd hottest July since 1897. COOP data for temperatures exists for RIC back to January 1880, but NCDC does not certify this as official. Anyway, if you include this, it's comes in as 4th, right after July 1887's 82.3. It's interesting to note that 4 of the top 10 hottest Julys have all occurred in the last 6 years. We've been topping 90-degrees way more often and nighttime lows, particularly the number of days with a low temperature of 70-degrees or higher, have been considerably warmer than they used to be, at least officially at the airport.

Nice lighting rolling through here. On my way home I saw two light poles along 360 get lit up. Half inch of rain so far.

Great lightning, from my perspective I had lightning going off 180˚ around me.

It's always cool when where the roads are all steamy and coated in a low fog afterwards.
