golia1w
I think the wind was more impressive than anything today. Well that and the dry air... ;x Yeah, I was stuck for about an hour on I-64 today about 4:00pm with that brushfire that closed both lanes. Wind was really whipping the flames around. RIC Airport
Today is the anniversary of a signficant March snowfall for C VA where 6-12" fell over much of the area. Richmond metro was actually the hardest hit for the storm. It was a very exciting event b/c it was the first snowstorm to produce a widespread 6" or more in over 7 years. There was also quite a bit of blowing and drifiting snow during the morning of the 2nd. And following the storm, we had record cold including the coldest March temperature in over 100 years of record keeping.
RIC Airport
BTW, February 2011 was over 5 degrees warmer than average and finished with 6 days with a high temperature 70°F or higher. The lowest temperature was only 21°F. This is the first February since 2003 to not feature a low temperature below 20°F.

RIC Airport
Does this offset the cold anomalies from Dec and Jan to bring us to near normal for DJF? No. Due to the extremely cold December and a solidly below average January, the winter still finishes below normal. The 1981-2010 DJF average is 39.9 with this winter finishing at 37.2.
