Thank you!!!!

i hope everyone is sitting before you read this.

I dont think there has been a better winter than this in my lifetime. 1995-1996 was GREAT, but there were periods of torrential rain, warmth etc. Snow melted quickly that year. 1993-1994 was GREAt as well, but there was way too much sleet and ZR as well as bone chilling cold. This winter has, to date, had the perfect combo. If February is anything like the last 6 weeks we are in for a treat....for all of us jet fans-CANT WAIT!

You were also on the Xmas day after blizzard from about a week out (as the Dec 19, 2010 storm was busting as a matter of fact.)

Sleet LR mixes when the intencity drops off, the back to snow whne heaver here in Skillman Somerset Co. Interesting to see BLM at 32F while most NWS stations around it are 33 34. Eyeballing about 4.5 5 " Somerset, Wife Eyeballs 4 in Freehold.

Does anyone have current Ob's in Monmouth County?

i think i read at 1051AM JFK reported 2.3"...we probably had about an inch since then. I would LOVE to get up to 5" before the main event comes in later....

If this is the "lull" its better than anything we had in the late 80s-early 90s or late 90s lol.

It feels like what we're getting right now is priming the atmosphere for later. It's wonderful having just experienced heavy snow this morning and still having continuous light snow all day and then expecting heavy snow again tonight!

Its an awesome feeling.. With all the snowcover we had before this it looks like 15" is on the ground.. Im expecting a wild night :snowman:

Ace, your best post ever right there.

February looks awfully cold and maybe another major storm.

yes i was- the second I saw the GFS h5 configuration at like 168hrs out I had a feeling.

honestly i think feb could bring a few more significant snow events, starting with the one next week....we (NYC) might be close to 60" by feb 5th

4 inches in Colts Neck. Very light sleet/rain.

Why is everyone obsessing over precip type right now? this is the lull before the main event, clearly when the precip lightens up you are going to get something other than snow mixed in but its not holding down accumulations so really isn't important. Midtown looks to be all snow right now with big flakes melting on contact

Says who?

that usually means SW Nassau cty gets fooked thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

but alex/bluewave and a few others are used to it already!

I really don't see how unless the mesoscale banding just completely misses us, and the dryslot looks to stay south of here.

Even if we get 5 or 6" more while others get 8 or 9, who cares-awesome storm we have here.

this snow has stuck to trees like glue...if winds were just a little stronger tonight this would have power outage potential. But winds appear to be just calm enough to prevent any widespread outages...but it should be plenty to get some good drifting going on.

Power outages are a concern of mine as well, and as the low begins to bomb out our winds will pick up. The snow should stay the heavy, wet variety as well since we're supposed to stay around 30-32.

Most everyone on this board is obsessed with snow. After all, isn't this an Ob's thread after all ??????

Gusty winds would knock a lot of snow out of the trees. Low growing stuff...hedges, etc. you'f propbably have to take care of manually, but the wind will do the rest. I'm neglecting most of my shrubs...they've been bent and encased since December. Its time for a new look anyway come spring.

Most of the stuf I care about is ok...or I haven't seen it above the snow for quite a while...it should be ok for the buried stuff.

FYI, we are getting some of the heaviest snowfall of the day here as I prepare to hit the add reply button.
