Sampson
and better than the sleet and/or rain others are getting I still cant figure out how we've managed to hold onto the snow while the north shore and manhattan has gone over to sleet and freezing rain. That's a surprise to me.

Just drove from Bethpage to N. Syosset. Some mixing observed, more so in Bethpage but even here in N. Syosset. Temp is 30. Between 3 and 3 .5" of snow in N. Syosset. snowman21
well it is paid for by taxpayers.... I think he means more open access like there is to U.S. models. Some of the ECMWF stuff is free/public, but obviously some important model output is not. Meanwhile NCEP makes all the model output free to anyone with an internet connection or satellite receiver and even makes the source code available for anyone to run their own version. WMO really doesn't have anything to do with it, though they have rules for how weather observations are distributed globally (WMO 40 for example). ace0927
This is all true. Thank you!!!! i hope everyone is sitting before you read this. I dont think there has been a better winter than this in my lifetime. 1995-1996 was GREAT, but there were periods of torrential rain, warmth etc. Snow melted quickly that year. 1993-1994 was GREAt as well, but there was way too much sleet and ZR as well as bone chilling cold. This winter has, to date, had the perfect combo. If February is anything like the last 6 weeks we are in for a treat....for all of us jet fans-CANT WAIT! A-L-E-X
It feels like what we're getting right now is priming the atmosphere for later. It's wonderful having just experienced heavy snow this morning and still having continuous light snow all day and then expecting heavy snow again tonight!
