Hey Pete what did you receive in Port Jeff yesterday...I was at work and I'm not sure what # to put down in the log book...looked like 3 inches but I'm not certain...

William, my wife was home well before me (around 3 p.m.) and says 2 inches, no more. There could have been some compaction, I guess, but that seems accurate based on what I saw.

It's probably a sign that it's warming up aloft, since these huge aggregate flakes often mean it's melting and recombining into these large flakes. Sleet's almost here but it's also about over.

Yep,that's why were are seeing returns around 50 dbz.

Dosh, where in NJ are you?

South end of New Brunswick, almost on the border with North Brunswick. I'm technically in the mount holly CWA, but I identify with the NY area

heres another pic looking the other way down my street. The snow made it so dark the streetlights came on arrowheadsmiley.png

Currently have 4.5" of gloppy wet snow.

Just an FYI regarding winter snowfall to date for NYC.

Through 1/25/2011, seasonal snowfall stood at 37.1", tied for 5th with 2003-04. This morning's snowfall pushed NYC past 2003-04. If NYC has a storm total snowfall of 7.9", its seasonal snowfall to date would surpass the record of 44.9" that fell during the October 1947-January 1948 timeframe.

who would ever think that nyc could get 45" in 30 days

haha, i did... will try to post them later...

but right now... SLEET has commenced...

measured 3.0" as soon as the pinging began...

Some ridiculously large flakes in this band.

These large flakes must be just preceding the mix line. Additionally, those really bright echoes must be sleet, with heavy snow on the boundary-- sort of like that old saying, that you have to smell the sleet in order to get the heaviest snow :P
