A-L-E-X
Moderate to heavy snow and its absolutely a beautiful scene. I wil tell you what, if there is no or a little lull by the afternoon before the actual real show begins, this is another 12 plus snowfall, dare I say, 12 to 18+? And finally a daytime snowstorm Part 1 anyway haha.

CAT5ANDREW
Be careful with analogs of DEC 2003.While many here got walloped on the 6th as well, there were those of us who got caught in some serious subsidence that day.I got another 2-3 inches on the 6th as Queens County was inbetween the deform bands over Eastern NJ and Nassau and Suffolk county.Expect the same tonight with some getting the majority of their snowfall with this batch now.2.5 inches here
Joe4alb
Im starting to become less and less concerned with temperature issues as it is currently snowing all the way to montauk. Snowing harder than i have EVER seen it right now!!! CRAZY whiteout here!!!

jm1220
lol you want warm air? I dont think we'll ever mix ..... especially since the mix line was down south past ACY. Same thing happened in 12/2003. The RUC drives it pretty far north for a while, but it is the RUC and sometimes it overwarms the layers. It was good for the last storm though so we'll see. It's very encouraging that even Wilmington, DE is still all snow-means we should have a while to go. We probably get at least 4" from this batch, and then part 2 should be insanity later tonight. I remember all the stations upping totals like crazy from around 4-8" up to 12-18" on 12/5/02, I wonder if something similar is in the cards for today? I think at least 12" is a possibility given how much we're seeing now.
kwt
Friend on the Clearview Expressway in Queens said multiple accidents and spin-outs and traffic is a complete stand still. Sadly not at all surprising given what time this heavier stuff is falling at...
Zir0b
could this be like the long duration storm some models were indicating a week ago? overrunning followed by the coastal itself. that's what it feels like anyway
SnowGoose69
I love how the ASOS liquid equivalent works when its near 32...... .12 or .13 reported at NYC/LGA/EWR....that would be alot more snow if it was 10 degrees colder=

RU848789
Since I have a large email list for weather info, have friends in places like Lansdale, PA, Philly, Cherry Hill, New Hope, etc., who are all reporting 4-5" of snow on the ground and it's still coming down. Only glanced at the Philly obs thread, but looks similar. Up to about 3" here in Metuchen and it's ripping. Could easily see 4-5" here from part 1. Any chance it just continues? The liquid equivalent is whatever it catches in the bucket which snow is notorious for missing with even a slight breeze.
SnowGoose69
Really? The liquid equivalent is whatever it catches in the bucket which snow is notorious for missing with even a slight breeze. It performs way worse though when its 18 vs. 32 it seems.

Dosh
View out my back door in New Brunswick. Over 3" now, already beating out mount holly's forecast for today, lol. The railing planks are exactly 1" thick, so I'm using that as a frame of reference. The chair had old snow on it

kwt
Looks like the estimates now being upped to 6-8 inches for this region, I think thats probably a little on the low side frankly given how this is evolving and I'd personally go for widespread 9-12 inches at the moment with locally places getting close to 15...but who knows! ak22
Really coming down in Morristown - probably 2 + inches judging from 3 stories up. Quite a change from when I went to the gym this am at 7am, when nothing was happening! Days like these I'm happy I can work from home and can watch the story unfold. Regarding I-78 Eastbound being down to 1 lane - I know there was an early morning accident that shut down exit 57 - seemed to be unrelated to weather. But, add the snow on top of that and you get a nightmare. Can't imagine trying to get to Newark Airport today, what a mess. Now if only I could get this to keep trending North and West to nail Southern VT and give me a good weekend up in Mt Snow...
Drz1111
Seeing as I work in a skyscraper, its real easy to gauge visiblity. Suffice to say, we're well under 1/4th mile at the battery. S+.
