Dude, Ocean Parkway is starting to whiten, that should tell you about the intensity right now

Snow started to stick instantly on the Clearview Expressway once it started to snow earlier. I was very impressed with the ease it stuck. Snowing moderately in Jamaica right now.

My question (concern) is since the models didnt really see all this precip this early do you think we end seeing a larger percentage of the Qpf fall during the day rather than a 6 to 8 hour period this evening and therefore end up losing more to melting?

Some people have a theory that these 2 part events when you get surprised early the 2nd part duds...it happened in the 12/5-12/6 2003 storm where the 2nd low just never seemed to be able to get its act together...its possible some of the energy can sort of wipe out...we'll have to see what happens...I suspect the end result at worse though is still 4-8 inches or 6-10.

aside from the fact that it isnt a Miller B, this is reminiscent of Dec 5-7 2003....I know Goose had said it earlier...but its eerily similar

Some CIPS analogs were listing it as a top 3 or 5 event, even as far back as 3-4 days ago....as I posted earlier though I hope we don't fry the 2nd part like we did in 2003 by having a crazy first wave.

Second part of this storm has the impressive 700 low and jet structure.

As soon as I saw the snow covered roads this morning I KNEW the forecasts of mixing were going to be a BUST haha. It's been snowing hard here and this is the same thing that happened with Dec 2003. The only difference is this storm isnt supposed to last as long. It's funny to see the news people behind the times lol. Its snowing clear down to ACY and its pretty clear there wont be any mixing.

You were right with the radiational cooling; we were down in the mid 20s this morning. The two storms this reminds me of are actually Dec 2003 and Apr 1996-- we got a lot of radiational cooling before that one started too and that enabled us to start as snow instead of a mix, giving us a head start on accumulations. We already have over an inch on the ground.

I guess there really isnt a gulf stream this winter ;)
