CAT5ANDREW
I know it's hard to believe..this winter has been awesome for any winter lovers in this area..you can't get 2 feet of snow on every storm..if you wanna see that..then live in the Sierra mountains..the snowcover since Dec 26th for this area has been remarkable..simmer down guys

I have not seen my lawn since 12/26.My back and front yard has snow piles..actually more like mini glaciers.I dont ever remember seeing huge piles of snow like this for 30 days straight.Even in 1993-94 we had snowcover, but ni piles until the big FEB storms. This is without a doubt one of the best winters of my lifetime. NJwinter23
The 18z nam is depicting some pretty hectic banding features progressing northeast. Nobody would get more than 12" (boo hoo lol) because it isnt one steady deformation band that would pick an area to dump on being depicted this run. I don't like when h5 open back up. http://www.meteo.psu.edu/~gadomski/NARR/2009/us0302.php
A-L-E-X
I agree ace...but I think it will be more mixing during the light spotty precip Ahead of the wall of white which will put an end to all of the mixing This would be the typical spring time snowstorm lol. JBG
Whatever the case, this little event that just passed by, and now another one until Thursday will make people sick of the snow, except us of course. I thnk we could use a bit more snow.
SnowGoose69
it would probably happen around sunset when it normally gets colder than it is during the day. I said yesterday this is an event where LGA could see 6 inches more than JFK because of prolonged sleet...I could see LGA to snow by 21Z and JFK not til 01Z or something like that. green tube
I can't remember ever having snowcover for a month..I don't know..maybe 1978..and 93-94..so far this winter has been one of the best I could ever remember..even this morning we had snow..didn't see that coming 93-1994 i had complete snowcover from december 25 thru march 10... with the exception of the first week in feb, when snowcover was less than 50% the first half of this winter is fast approaching "best first half ever." JBG
I know.... man, even the Xmas storm had the sun coming out (although it was like 10 am instead of 7 am lol). Every other storm has had the snow out of here between 5-7 am, although the last one managed to eek out a few flakes up until 8 am or so. The funny thing is, the sun always comes out right after the last flake falls! Northwesterly winds downslope of the Appalachians tends to do that. I still say that this is the deepest snowpack we have had over a 30 day period.Even FEB 1978 had the snowpack erode.
uncle W
back in 1973 I was getting copies of Weatherwise...One month they focused on Philadelphia snow cover...1960-61 was the best winter...I'm not sure it it was beat since 1974...we have a long way to go to surpass 1947-48 and 1993-94 winters...If the snow pack lasts thru mid February we will be near the record for the longest consecutive days with snow on the ground...1976-77 had some snow on the ground from 12/26 to mid February without a major snowfall... Yes, the last weeks of January sucked but February, March and even April fixed that quickly. If this winter continues at this pace, it will be right up there with the classic winters. I hope the higher precip rates force the midlevels to cool faster than that lol.
Stormlover74
That was an awful setup as I recall. No source of cold air whatsoever and temps were in the mid to upper 40s. Plus by the time any cold air worked its way in the storm was long gone. I don't really recall which models besides the GFS showed the hit though. what was that pretty big busted storm on a Sunday night was it Jan 2006 or so or 2007 Suppose to hit us hard overnight with 8 inches and we barely got 2...any help with this? I got sick and tired of that. 93-94 is now squarely in fourth place (pending this winter, it could go to fifth if this winters goes over 50") behind 95-96, 02-03 and 09-10.
