Central PA Late January Thread Part II

Recommended Posts

It hasn't once stopped snowing in Harrisburg. It's been light, but never stopped.

If the heavier bands will be here in 2 or so hours, getting home is going to be an absolute nightmare. Hell getting HERE this morning was harrowing - some idiot in front of me took a corner going probably 20 and his car ended up bouncing off a telephone pole into a pretty large ditch on Chambers Hill Road.

Thundersnow? Let's do this!

(btw I third calling this storm PSUHazletonWx: Revenge)

Heard that on scanner..........I heard some roads still haven't been touched from this am

How soon, i may let some of my guys go home

I see no thundersnow developing over south central PA until AFTER 6pm. Between 6pm and 2am the crux of the storm will be upon us. Hope this helps.

Yeah, agreed....sorry.

For those of us in "true" Central PA (geographically speaking), how's that shaping up for this region (UNV, Clearfield, IPT)?

Interesting on the thundersnow - I saw reports of lightning in VA.

Hi Jamie, glad to see you made the switch from Eastern to American. Between I-80 and I-76 is the real tricky part of this storm. Sometimes when the main deform band sets up, there can be a secondary band of moderate snow which mimics the length and timing of the primary. I can see such a band setting up along a line east and west from Johnstown to Altoona to For Indiantown Gap. Further north, I am sorry to say, accumulations will be meager, less than 3".

Between CTP and our local news outlets in this region...many folks will not know what hit them this evening. We already had the surprise this morning with over 2" - still under an Advisory and the local news outlets are basically writing the second part of this storm off.

yep, i have a bad feeling the meteorologists are going to take a beating after this storm.

HRRR destroys SC PA...heavy bands continue to inch north with every run and deform continues to push west little by little every run

Hmm...can't see that image. Got a link? I'm about to head back to my apartment north of State College.... still no internet unfortunately. Looks like some light stuff now falling here on campus.

Understood it was a difficult forecast all around but I guess I can't understand why (as in most other cases like this) they didn't leave the door open for the potential that the storm could shift west and cause more impact. CTP yesterday wrote this off as a slopfest and the media outlets here just awful pretty much wrote it off.

The models were all over the place so forecasters had to know that there could be a high bust potential either way with it. But as of right now still no concerns that this storm will impact travel, roads etc.

abc27 is the absolute worst...one of the worst forecasts i've seen in quite some time. i mean any idiot could of seen it was not going to be mostly rain.

Last year, like a day before one of our big snows, Brett Thakera didn't even mention the poss. of snow, let alone a big one that we all had seen for days.
