flwxwatcher45
True, the more "classic" supercell structures have failed to develop (so far)... but you can still get a long tracker if a break in the squall line maintains itself, such as the one north of Tampa. The line north of Tampa is looking pretty interesting. We will have to see how the line maintains itself once it moves inland.

WeatherNC
Looks like storms are starting to pop up in the rural area between Lake Okeechobee and Orlando. Yeah those I the ones I am keeping my eye on, but nothing as of yet... They are starting to take on a comma shape in reflectivity, however I do not see any rotation with them. Also keep an eye on the stuff just to the southwest of Fort Myers, those are coming into a more favorable environment. Wicked line just north of Tampa... Akeem the African Dream
One of my friends just moved to the Tampa area 2 weeks ago. He has no idea what Florida thunderstoms are like. LOL. He's used to NJ thunderstorms. He's about to get a quick education I think. Meh. This isn't really the common Florida thunderstorm. This is more like what you would experience in Jersey during the summer with a cold front and associated squall line. There is just a slightly greater threat for quick spinups in this set up. I think the areas that are really under the gun the next few hours and where I would be suprised if something did not spin up are Sumter, Lake, Volusia, and then getting into Brevard after 7pm.. I live Northwest of Lakeland and a little quick T-storm just went through that popped up ahead of the squall line. It was really brief but with it came a really quick burst of small hail. On radar the storm didn't look impressive at all. Really strange!!!

flwxwatcher45
According to Bay News 9, Quarter size hail reported with the squall line in Brooksville with 45- to 55 Mph winds reported along the squall line as it has moved onshore. icebreaker5221
Likely a strong tornado on the ground in Marion county, just ene of Eastlake Weir, passed just west of Lady Lake a few minutes ago It's hard to say. That's definitely not a signature of a strong tornado - the couplet is just too broad and doesn't have very strong rotation right near the center. However, since the supercell in question is so far from the radar, what we're seeing there is an elevated look at the storm mesocyclone, which is expected to be less "tight" than a tornado signature lower in the storm. It is possible that the surface circulation is stronger, or it could be weaker. Looks like NWS is playing it on the safe side and issuing a warning either way. Scorpion
I was waiting outside for the squall to come in, it was pretty cool. I could hear the roar of the wind in the distance and then it kept coming closer. Winds werent too strong though, maybe 40 mph at most. It was tough driving back though.
