SnoSki14
I don't think it's going to get colder than this next week despite the cold shot. The lows will probably be the same as tonight although it will feel colder because of the winds. The highs will be a few degrees colder than it has been, at least 2 days in the 20s. With no snow cover, I don't see anyone near the NYC terminals getting below 10F, maybe even upper teens. Even with snow these days it's hard to get the NYC area that cold. When you add the strong NW wind that inevitably results from a sub 980mb low going by, it gets even harder.
Kaner587
looks like we finally got a solid day of negative departures for NYC with a 23-30 spread that is good for at least -10, but I think its around -11 or

tmagan
Sea surface temperature down to a chilly 42 F at Execution Rocks, a lighthouse in western Long Island Sound...which at least means the cold snap was not entirely in vain. I have been looking for an atlas dealing solely with marine landmarks but have never found it.
jm1220
If you are only speaking of NYC, maybe. nearby? many of us are in the middle teens now. The winds are almost calm tonight, allowing temps to get down to about as far as they can without snow cover this time of year. NYC will probably get down to around 20, immediate burbs down to maybe 15, and then possibly much lower in the typical cold spots like the Pine Barrens. When the storm departs early next week, just the strong wind will keep it from getting colder than it is now. Also, given that NW winds are the downslope direction for us and no snowcover, it will make it difficult to get really cold. Models seem to be tempering down the insane -20C at 850 cold that was progged a couple of days ago. It'll still be frigid, and probably feel even colder than this cold snap, but not as cold as it could otherwise be.
