January 26-27 Storm Threat - II

I have been siding with the idea that too amped is more of a concern than OTS.

Absolutely. I'm still nervous about that. This pattern has many earmarks of something coming closer. I know we have the northern stream and the possibility of it kicking it further ots, but you can tell that this thing will come up the coast if it senses even the slightest weakness.

That's very good advice. See ya later!

Pregnancy sex is the best, crap, storm thread.

Your windshield wiper theory is one of the best analogies I have seen. Euro is as steadfast as I have seen it this year. Intensity is ramping up on all models, going to be a bomb, circa size even if at BM Heading NNe would be enough to satiate all. With a 5 h capture would expect slower movement for a time too. Go ahead weenie me. I am pumped.

The ensembles have been quite consistent from all major models. 18z GEFS went a bit east as did 06z this morning, but all in all, quite consistent. Euro and its ensembles have been the most consistent of the bunch.

Like you said, the off hour runs seem to be biased east right now for some reason. Ensembles are usually biased SE of the op model runs, and the GEFS has been (to some extent) holding strong aligned with the op.

Meanwhile the op Euro only had a minor blink once -- yesterday's 12z run. Otherwise it's been very consistent. What's your opinion of the Euro's superiority right now? I know it's lost the confidence of some people after a few storms this winter. I also know in previous winters, with a consistent solution from the Euro at 72-96hr, it would be hands down, who cares about what NCEP has come up with on the chalkboard.

Right now a lot of the characteristics of the disagreement sound like they're originating from initialization.

Mike Wankum (consider that name....and what comes up in your mind's eye if you've never seen him...) likened this event to 1/18. WTF?

I heard the same thing.....slightest hint of Boston turning to rain and he thought "WTH".

He prob figured he could get away with it because it was the only one that had p-type issues.

Duh, you are primetime

When my wife and I first lived together, we had a cruddy lil apartment in Gardner and had some unbelievable storms (incl. April Fools 36"er). Her dad was kinda pissed about snow and would spend all day snowblowing his entire yard. Now, they hire someone for the driveway and I do their roof sometimes. For a while it seemed that old city was ground zero for winter weather.

Was in Burrillville for some of today and they have 20-24" OTG Very impressive.

Yeah. 2 sentences before referring to the 1/18 storm he said something like "lots of snow inland"
