I would be very disappointed if Dave is not posting anymore. I would have to see the exchange to see if wxtrix is out of line. She can come across pretty abrasive in her posts but usually it is toward weenies and wishcasting. That being stated, I would hope Dave could just ignore any garbage posts or personal attacks and allow the moderators to take action if they are out of line.

We have seen this movie before...more than once.

That whole thread is a cluster**** and I think 99% of the posters in it should be embarrassed by their behavior. Why do we allow folks to come on here and behave like children? It's one thing when it's good-natured ribbing, as often goes on in the regional threads, but 99% of the folks who needled Dave knew exactly the response they would provoke and they did so for their own entertainment.

I don't disagree with the claim that Dave's personality is probably better suited to one way media than to an interactive forum like this, but that does not make the way others responded to him acceptable. To my eyes and ears, those who treated Dave with respect and posted thoughtful comments in the model threads were treated likewise by him.

Dave doesn't suffer fools lightly. This forum shouldn't suffer fools lightly in model threads either. We claim not to, but, too often, in my opinion, we don't follow through on our "storm mode" claims.

I know that I, too, am guilty of violating the model thread rules in terms of quality of posts sometimes. However, I attempt to behave in the same manner as I would were we having this conversation face-to-face.

Too many do not. They hide behind the anonymity of their keyboard, screen names, and avatars. And these forums allow it and, seemingly, encourage it.

We should all do more to show other posters respect and make this forum a useful place to learn.

This forum will lose a valuable resource if Dave is not posting anymore. I really thought that it was working out much better than in the past. I hope he does not leave.

Posters who come in the forums to start trash and are not respectful of the various mets opinions should be banned, permanently.

Could someone please point me to the thread that blew up and has caused Dave to stop posting?

Thanks!

A pretty interesting glimpse behind the scenes at WRIC by Matt DiNardo (who really should comment on here, since he confirms they visit and read) from last weekend ... I'll have to be nicer to them since I know they visit. Of course, Jimmy D at NBC12 is the one who I really think is too conservative.

problem is you have people who have no life and love drama and just want to push buttons to tick people off. the majority of us in this thread like dt because he is a imby met and he gives the real deal no bs. i like dt as a met and for following the weather. has he been an angel over the years on message boards? not at all. is his posting style abrasive? yes, but so far he had been pretty tame here, but it's the usual trolls who just love drama, bait here and post eleswhere about it. the number one goal was stir crap up to try to get him to leave.

mission accomplished he is gone, we will be fine you can still get his thoughts elsewhere. so lets just move on

i am in canaan valley wva. alot of snow on the ground very nice

Mido - The Admins should enforce the rules...If they know it is happening they should ban these ppl. but as DT says they are friends of the Admins. I will go

back to SV and follow DT on his sites. no need for americanwx.

I know where to find DT so that's no problem. Americanwx (just like eastern) has attracted a lot of professional mets, either private, broadcast, or NWS, and gifted amateurs. I like to hear their opinions as well. Problem is many pros have stopped posting here to avoid the same problems DT and LC came across. This particular group of troublemakers have caused problems with DT in the past apparently. I guess its good to have friends in high places. At least at SV they don't put up with it.

I'd say you are definitely on target with this post.

In my opinion, it is unfortunate that posters such as wxtrix, kush, hugo, h2o, mapgirl, j. mike, and macchump have taken it upon themselves to create a dominating clique that has far-reaching affects across this board (they will try to convince you that their trolling is limited to OT/AP, but I have seen it everywhere). If you happen to offend one member of this inclusive group, good luck, because all of them will come at you guns blazing. If anyone wants evidence of this, head over to OT, where you will find them piggybacking off each others posts and putting outsiders down with harsh words (oftentimes, when called out, they will simply respond "who are you?"). There is no arguing that it was this very group of posters who ran DT off the board, much in the same fashion as the incident with LC years ago.

If you look closely, you will also notice that a favorite target of theirs is the MA poster Fozz, who I often try to defend from their nonsensical attacks. Unfortunately, I get no where with this, as it quickly becomes a game of 10 on 1. Just today, I was told by a member of this clique that my posts "never have any point to them," which confused the heck out of me, seeing as how I have never had any interaction with this particular poster. But with this group, anything goes.

As others have said, I have suspicions that an admin or two may have their hands in the pockets of these posters, but I can't really confirm that in any way. I can only imagine what is being said over at DBM about all this right now (I have attempted to register over there, but in mysterious fashion, my registration has never been confirmed by an admin). I guess, in the end, there is no point fretting about all of this, as the aforementioned group of posters is definitely in the minority (although they try their hardest to make it seem as if they aren't). My best option is probably to stop reading/posting over in OT/AP.

It saddens me to see mets like DT go. It is even worse that many great minds do not post more, whether it be outside of their regional forums or just in general (people like HM, RaleighWX, VAWXman, and others). And although I would hope it to be the opposite, I can only attribute much of this to the problems mentioned previously.

As for you Midlo, I hope you don't feel offended by any of this, as I think you are an amazing mod and an even better poster (I wish there were more like you here). I don't ever see myself leaving this board, as I have way too much fun talking about weather with everyone here. I just really needed a place to vent where I knew prying eyes wouldn't be looking.

End of rant.

wxjunkie, how do you feel this month will rank in the top 10 coldest Decembers?

It looks like it will rival December 2000 and come in as the 5th or 6th coldest December since 1897 at around 33.0 degrees. In terms of snowfall, it will rank the 11th snowiest since with 8.0".....this is after the adjustments with last week's storm. All in all, a very great month for C VA and two white Christmases in a row. IIRC, this has not happend before. And with the above average December snowfall, the 1981-2010 average should be around 10.2" or 10.3". NCDC will probably have us at 10.7" if they don't count some of the seasons in the late 90s with missing data. The 1898-2010 long term average comes in at 12.9".

Re: DT....I'm not happy to see him go. There's been talks on the other boards about DT and they were predicting his banning. I do believe the 40S crew has a lot to do with it, including a prominent administrator. I do a lot of browsing so I have a good grasp of what comes into play for a lot of things. I was somewhat of a heavy OT poster back in 2005 and 2006, but due to behavior of some posters, I stay out of there most of the time and I do not get caught up in the drama on the weather side. I keep a lot of my comments/feelings to myself as I have nothing to prove to anyone on this board.

It's quite possible that we exceed 20" at RIC this season. The last back to back 20 inch + seasons were 1981-82 (21.2") and 1982-83 (29.4"). I think the pattern for the winter has establish itself and it's apparent that C and SE VA will continue to get chances for snowfall. If this season is shaping up to be similar to 1892-93, which was also a strong la Nina, watch out! ORF finished with 33.0" that season. And although official RIC snowfall and temperature records weren't taken prior to 1897, rainfall amounts were recorded beginning in 1887. When you look at the rainfall numbers for RIC and note the temperatures at ORF on those dates, you can assume the precip recorded at RIC fell as snow. Adding up the precip numbers, it's likely that RIC exceeded 40" that season. There was a station near Bon Air that recorded 24" just for the month of January 1893 and a 12.0" snowfall on January 12th.

Bottom line is, it will be very interesting to see how things unfold for the rest of the season. :snowman:

It's time to start looking ahead to next week's threat. Per the latest ECMWF, central and SE VA looks to get hit again....even NC. Maybe we can get an even bigger storm for C VA next weekend. :weight_lift:

I'd say at least 15-20" very possible for RIC this year. ORF may see its snowiest season since 1979-80.

Its like deja vu ! :P Euro shows mega storm about a week out with no other models really showing anything. Will it bust like 12/18 or win like 12/25!
