RIC Airport
If ORF officially exceeds 7.2", it would be the biggest snowstorm since February 1989. Here are the biggest events since then....4.0" or more. 6.5" January 30-31, 2010 5.0" December 26, 2004 7.2" January 2-3, 2002 4.7" January 25, 2000 7.1" February 3-4, 1996 6.2" January 6-8, 1996

RIC Airport
What I remember was the gap in precip between the first batch and upper level energy. That was a great storm and what it made so special was that it was RIC's first 6 inch event in quite a few years. We had graupel and BLSN to boot followed by a couple days of record low temperatures. RIC Airport
I must say that I'm extremly happy for extreme SE VA, particuarly southside Hampton Roads. You really, REALLY deserved this and I hope the highest totals verify at ORF.....10"+. Looks like Franklin, Ivor, Waverly, Isle of Wight, and Newport News around Fort Eustis are going to be in the sweet spot for quite a while.
