WhiteoutWX
Nearly 3" on the ground here, and yet the TV mets are telling me that we will only see 3-6" total The latest RUC looks sexy, low wraps up and actually head a little north of west passing offshore VA beach, precip starts backing in from the E/NE. Radar not looking bad down south in GA/SC looks to be headed this way. NAM and GFS didnt look all too hot but we will see I guess. About 2.5" looks like here in the west end. eaglesin2011
hit a bit of a dry patch now here off of 295 exit 33... barely snowing now hopefully the radar can fill back and stay away from the dry air in the next few hours and can get a bit more then expected out here.. Looks to be a tad over 2 inches here at the moment...
Inudaw
3" on the dot here now near the Airport. My deck surprisingly had some snow left over .. it has nearly 5" ;p Good solid 3" cover everywhere though. Radar looks absolutely great down in Southern NC and almost all of SC. Definitely pushing more north from down there finally. Will have some intermediately light and moderate bands and maybe even complete lulls till that thing can get up here. weathervswife
It has been snowing at exactly the same rate for about 8 hours straight regardless of radar echoes.. Very little if any deviation. Right around 2" still.

RIC Airport
wonder how many r going to end up with an official white xmas? Well, it depends on your definition. Today goes down as an official white christmas b/c RIC has had accumulating snows. Once all said and done, this will go down as one of the snowiest Christmas Days on record. I believe the most recorded on Christmas day at RIC is 5.4" in 1914. We'll have to see once the daily RICCLI comes out about 3:30am.....but I think easily the airport should report 3" just for today's snowfall. The other definition is snowcover. And NOAA classifies a snowdepth at 12Z (7am) of at least 1 inch a white christmas. RIC had that last year since snowcover persisted through the morning of the 25th after the December 18-19, 2009 snowstorm. The official 6:54am observation was 2" which made it the 1st time since 1966 having such depth on Christmas morning.

eaglesin2011
looks like its going to be a few hours for any more good measurable snow here in the west end /short pump area radar pretty broken up & light until you get to the SC/NC border.. hopefully we can stay away from any dry air when the moister try's to make it way back up here.. Suffolkweather
Please, sir. I'd like some more!!! Yeah, RUC shows 1.29" QPF for ORF from midnight until tomorrow afternoon. We will see about that . But, to get that, VB would have serious mixing issues as RUC has low pretty close to coast.

MidlothianWX
By the way folks, per mitchnick in the 00z thread, the Euro gives RIC nearly .5" QPF. I think it is still a decent bet that the metro area sees 5-8" out of this one.
RIC Airport
The 12:54am snowdepth out of RIC came out and it's at 3". http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/KRIC.html I think we are off to a good start....could certainly be looking at a 6" storm which would make 5 such events in less than 2 years.
