Out here in Forest, we had that burst of snow this AM that was a trace-- and then like snizzle for hours. At 2 ish--this increased to a more light snow and now its slowly accumulating. All guidance has the boardorline just to my west and north for 3-5 or 1-2. Hoping we get 3-5.

Do you see why I've been "discussing" this issue with WxMan all day???

Again, the bulk of the models, including HPC guidance, has 2-4" total snowfall over that region. That would be "advisory" criteria by NWS standards. No sense in having a winter storm watch out valid for only 4-6 hours when at 4 pm they're either going to go with a warning or advisory anyway. Be patient my friend...a headline will come your way! (Though I will argue forget about the headline...focus on the amounts...that's the bottom line). When there's no WATCH out going into the day shift (i.e. after 7 am)...and when the event is close at hand...often times you'll see a transition right into a WSW/advisory.

For the record, this is a pleasure to be able to discuss this with you online. Sometimes I feel like I'm talking to the Wizard. I just don't want to waste the opportunity so thank you for all of your attention. We've already got 3" on the ground by the way so perhaps that will impact your thinking. :rambo:

OK, I got my 1-3" winter weather advisory. The reality is the headline won't affect the outcome. DT has me in 8-11"?????? I think I'll wait and see what verifies

Not working today, but you guys are getting really wrapped up over what amounts to an administrative issue. As Brian explained very nicely, when an advisory isn't issued by the midcrew, and WSW conditions aren't expected in the first period (i.e. this morning/aftn), what you have there is perfectly reasonable. The WWA map got updated at 4 as is expected. In any case, sit back and relax, the fun part is next! :)

Kean, were you working last night? Can you give us any sense about what it was like at the office?

Thanks!
