Kevin Druff
Wasn't there all 50 last year? I seem to recall something similar last winter. It was close last year, too. We didn't quite make all 50 as there was no snow on Mauna Kea or Mauna Loa at the point there was snow in Florida.

Martin
I just noticed that my anemometer was reading 0mph even though the wind at the coast is howling. I went out to check and the entire thing is covered in a block of ice.

It's getting lonely for VA. Yep, lonely and snowless.

Yeah, yesterday's effort was a bitter pill for sure but still cannot complain too much after the past 12 months. Definitely not ignorance on your part. That map was a little dated and the snow hole over Illinois got filled by yesterday's snow. They showed a revised map on one of the nightly news shows and it showed IL fully covered. Just read DT's latest missive. Rain then cold and dry.

Inudaw
Probably (and most likely premature) we'll be hard press to get a decent snow threat once the NAO goes positive (sure we could thread a needle so to speak.. WEENIE term w00t) but I definitely prefer a blocky pattern with a good -nao in place and a 50/50 low to be present. With out these... highs will try to slide off the coast, opening up the chance for lows to rapidly move through the area.. and move as far north as the ride and trough axis's promote. Latest trends show a HUGE PNA developing along the west coast.. but with a +NAO. We get nice and cold sure.. but with little to slow down a system. The Ridges and troughs would have to literally line up in the perfect spots to produce a track that would be favorable for this area. A blocky pattern allows a greater chance for cold air to lock in to the area... and not get forced out. Until the we can get the pattern to revert back to one with a good block over the Baffin Islands and Greenland... were going to be really pulling straws here for a good storm. It can happen.. yes but the likely hood does decrease.

I wasn't really expecting a new round of blocking until Feb.

Kevin Druff
This winter fooking blows So, almost everyone in that thread went into this winter expecting a warm, snowless winter. Ji even canceled winter in April, and again every month since October. Yet, all they do is b**ch and moan about a "waste" of cold or a "waste" of QPF. There are way too many way too attached to whether it snows outside their front door or not.
