The increase blocking visible on tonight's run favor a more south riding low compared to the earlier far north and west solutions provided by the earlier runs of the global models. I think a low passing to the south would be more favored giving the strength of the block depicted on tonight's models. Now if we get precip from the storm is another question. :X

2010-2011 could be the year for Ric-Orf. January looks very cold.

Sorry, I missed that. My bad. But wasn't Petersburg colder? I distinctly remember listening to WRVA and a caller mentioned it and couldn't understand it. I think that was just before WRVA switched to TWC for their weather.

I believe PTB officially lowered to -8°F on 1/28/00. I'll dig up the data for that station here in a sec.

Well, apparently NCDC only has data for the Dinwiddie County Airport back to 9/2002. But, if memory serves they had 18" of snow in the Petersburg area it was down to -8°F.

Ashland/Hanover County Airport just north of the I-95/I-295 JCT did lower to -5°F. Here is the form for that station.

Wxrisk.com AM JAN 5 IDEAS FOR JAN 11 EVENT. Right now.. NONE of the weather Models- NONE- show rain for Richmond so those on TV wx guys that are saying that ...well there may be right but right now NO data shows Rain. In fact the Biggest risk to this snow missing RIC is it passing to the south and east... NOT rain !!!!

Rainstorm,

You do realize we all have DT on facebook and if you didn't know, now you do. I don't know if it's nescessary to post all his feeds on here. :)

eehhh.... She has picked her spots fine with posting that stuff. She doesn't post "everything". It's just information and it's no different than someone posting a model graphic that we all have access to!

1/5 12z Euro joins GFS for snow day 6-7 for SE VA. Anybody got details?

Model verbatum..

ORF .58"

RIC .17"

ECG .58"

All snow. Not sure it covers the entire event as this is day 6/7... Model may spit out some more light precip after day 7. Right now, 3-6 for southside looking good and seems the models are starting to agree on the evolution of this and Euro has finally showed some consistency over past few runs.

Some pretty amazing model agreement between GFS and Euro this run for an event this far out. GFS might be a little farther east but other than that they're in lockstep.

Yes, something we didn't have for the last big event. Crazy how these models react to different setups.
