Thundersnow12
And it looks as though the 12z GFS is jumping on board with the EURO next week in regards to the warm up? a strong sfc low moves over northern IL around 180hr as we attempt to warm up before the CF comes though. 9 degrees at 850mb gets to about I-80 in IL. daddylonglegs
Up to -1F here... Liking that warm air. Need to wash the car asap. I still have a pile of boxes from Christmas that need to be tossed ...been sitting in the garage. People buy my kids anymore toys and they are getting tossed in the garbage God i hate toys. You'll know what I mean when you wake up in the middle of the nite and walk down the hallway and step on some toy car and almost break your neck! TugHillMatt
It's astonishing to me just how much Lake Michigan moderates our temps here in Western Michigan. While most of you guys got into the negative digits, my low bottomed out at 14 degrees above zero. On the other side of the lake in Wisconsin, it got down to -14...so the lake caused about a 30 degree difference!
A-L-E-K
got down to -16 at my friends house in sugar grove. something about the Aurora area always seems to bottom out. I think we got down to -5 or so.
snowstormcanuck
As of now, looks great for you and a glancing blow at best here. Of course much can change for the better or worse. Whats your snowdepth? And any idea how much water is in it? ***** First sub-zero morning officially of the winter, temp -1F at DTW and dropping, wind chills nearing -20F. Actually first subzero morning since Feb 2009. We tend to like to stay overcast on the coldest nights lol. Settled to about 12" after peaking at 15". Have no idea what the water content is. Definitely not a glacier like some people have been describing theirs. Still fairly loose and powderly. Not water laden.

daddylonglegs
Some good cold. I can imagine a lot of trees/plants are dead and probably some livestock frozen solid... Extended GFS looks more normal then warm...next week still torches..too bad that air probably never mixes down...snow pack will screw us.

Stevo6899
20-25 inches in ok and AK. How long will it take to melt it? 2 days of 60 degrees? Looks like that's forecasted next Tues/ Wed. Same question for the mw. Most of us have 15-20 on the ground. how many 40 degree days to rid the snow on the grass? The big piles may be there until April. snowstormcanuck
Trouble is, at the range, pure guesses mean little. Ensembles offer a more "range" of outcomes. I can assure you I have no idea what you're talking about.
snowstormcanuck
Decent system crosses country next week. Maybe some backside snow. I wouldn't get too invested in that storm. Looks pretty warm by all accounts. We'll have to see if -NAO bails us out thereafter.
snowstormcanuck
Neither I of you. Ok, let's help each other out and clarify. I posted a map of the 12z EURO at 240. Your turn...
snowstormcanuck
Why you posted a 240hr map of the Euro. You've been around here long enough to know model watching is pretty popular. I'd say the vast majority of the members here engage in it frequently. In fact, if you go back throughout this thread, and many others, you'll find lots of images/discussion about the models. And this is not limited to the short range. So you can see why I'm surprised at your quizzical reaction.

Harry
I have 12 right now. Not too bad out there. Same here but without the breeze it is not too bad. Keep the lake clouds away and tonight should get below 0. NWS has lowered the low to -4 vs the 3+ they did have. High today looks to be 16 after a low of 0. The low may get clipped before midnight though as the dp is dropping like a rock and is already down to -13 with clear skies.

That system/front looks like a slow mover with several disturbances riding along it which screams ice to me. A number of the euro ensembles DO have it as well. Something to watch anyways. cyclone77
Made it all the way up to 21 after starting at -17. Pretty impressive warm up. There were some pretty cool looking banks of fog this morning along the Rock. About 20 miles up the Rock River at Sterling they bottomed out at -26.
