  1. I expect the CT death band to set up nicely over YBY for a spell while we moderate snow at .5"/hr after virga early on. But anyway, advy events aren't bad. We'll take it. Would have preferred the true SWFE event thump to mix though if we were trying to verify warning criteria.
  2. 3 or 4 seems like a decent call right now
  3. Oh and today will beat the daily record low by another 14 degrees, which had stood since 1903
  4. This is from yesterday... talk about shattering a daily record... that had stood for 112 years LOL 000 SXUS74 KFWD 160711 RERDFW RECORD EVENT REPORT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE 1251 AM CST TUE FEB 16 2021 ...RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE FOR 2/15 SET AT DALLAS FORT WORTH... A RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE OF 4 WAS SET AT DALLAS FORT WORTH YESTERDAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 15 SET IN 1909. ...RECORD LOWEST MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE FOR 2/15 SET AT DALLAS FORT WORTH... A RECORD LOWEST MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 14 DEGREES WAS SET AT DALLAS FORT WORTH YESTERDAY FOR THIS DATE. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 31 DEGREES SET BACK IN 1909.
  5. What exactly do folks normally do in the winter that they can't do in a Covid winter?
  6. Yeah I mean this is about as big of a block of warm colors as we've seen since late Jan-Early Mar 2010... Possibly worth noting that the decline of the blocking thereafter only lasted about 2 weeks with the AO going just over neutral before zonal heights over the pole spiked right back up again. Granted, a late winter -AO doesn't guarantee frigid temps, but more than likely would help suppress any tendency for a big Nina-esque SE ridge I would think.
  7. I take some solace in the fact that the black line is south of the bottom red line
  8. 131 cars involved. 101 to hospitals, 6 dead. Meanwhile when an EF-3 ripped straight through Dallas last year, zero dead. Puts things in perspective in terms of risk.
  9. not amazing at all having seen the outcome... TARP, no arrests, monthly MBS purchases, etc. Why shouldn't they?
  10. LOL enjoy this, 3 degrees and pounding snow in Denton.
  11. Even out here where there is almost no traffic, 12/13/07 was a parking lot everywhere. That's the standard for 'came in like a wall'. And yeah... pass on that DFW cold wx please. Not really interested in how some old heat pumps sitting in fields are gonna hold up to maintain temps at least in the 40s inside the radomes.
  12. Was about 5" at Berkshire East and still snowing
  13. The 3km nammy point and click soundings on TT the last 24-48 hours didn't line up omega and the DGZ particularly well. And these tiny flakes do suggest shallow lift.

  15. Yeah... I was referring to that other Utah pic you posted. Maybe the airbag gives you a chance? But the Colorado slide you're getting a thousand tons of snow dumped on your head, at least it would be quick. And this crown here is just stupid.
  16. Chest high crowns across a football field's width. Yikes. The inflatable vest is pretty much a must and even then you're just hoping to end up near the surface. Many of us would be lying if we said we'd never been in prone positions, even in bounds and trying to be smart. But weeks like this really do bring the message home. You can't mess around. It looks so tempting at times but just not worth the risk.
  17. This is the report from the CO avy that killed 3. It's a classic terrain trap. One of the guys was found 16' down and it took rescue teams with power tools 2 days to reach him. https://snowbrains.com/full-caic-avalanche-report-silverton-colorado/
  18. I recall being at Red Mountain in BC and observing the ski club coach and kids standing over about a 15-20 footer... go go go children
  19. This times a million... they're getting rid of the wrong model... nobody pays attention to the GFS inside day 3
  20. Setups like this are our bread and butter
  21. 2.25", small flakes, coming down moderately. Could have been worse.
  22. The March 2016 analog was like 3-7 east of BDL-ORH-FIT but a very sharp cutoff west of the river. That sort of thing could be in play. We hope not of course.
