  1. It was already dropped in reality. The Euro just erroneously picked up a phantom.
  2. No January thaw this year. We have been in thaw mode for quite a while.
  3. Well, if you can't beat em, join em. If this is true, I will enjoy the warmer air and be happy to save on heating bills. Will continue to practice patience for significant snow later in the month or Feb.
  4. The only thing I know is that I don't know. We can take our best shots at forecasting patterns and possibilities, which makes this hobby interesting and fun, but I have low confidence on any long range forecast coming to fruition as stated. We have seen time and time again models switching, adjusting, etc. Mother nature usually throws us surprises, so even if we have good model consensus today about larger pattern evolution, I still try to avoid definitive conclusions about what will eventually transpire.
  5. What is the relationship between the MJO and the EPO? Does one influence the other?
  6. The type of digression we are seeing here is exactly what happens when winter takes a break and most get a brown Christmas. Merry Christmas everyone and count your blessings.
  7. Yes. Everyone forgets that what we see today is often what we don't see tomorrow. I love snow here as much as any weenie, but I am enjoying the milder temperatures for now as a break from the cold.
  8. Closer to the storm track, makes sense. But it seemed to be at a higher frequency than usual.
  9. Boxing Day actually delivered quite nicely up here in Poughkeepsie and surrounding. We had 16 inches. Not as much as the 2-3 foot amounts near the coast, but I was still very happy.
  10. Jan 2016 was the ultimate interior screw job. I literally felt sick to my stomach seeing a dusting while 90 miles south had an ultimate 2 feet blizzard. This will be very hard to make up for. Kind of like how March 2001 feels for so many around NYC and New Jersey, although that feeling was worse for them since the bullseye was initially there. We interior folks were never in the game to begin with in Jan 16.
  11. Up here in Poughkeepsie we are similar I believe snowfall wise. Yes, climo no doubt a big factor. Don't worry, Jan and Feb will deliver imo.
  12. Has been much better for inland areas. I can understand the coastal folks much more frustrated.
  13. Taking some steroids away from the Pac jet would help.
  14. I remember the national weather service issuing a severe thunder snow squall warning a few years ago somewhere in upstate New York with CG lighting and intense winds along the passage of an arctic front. God I wish I could have seen that!
  15. That winter was in a very strong El Nino. Thankfully this one isn't.
  16. What was supposed to be 3-5 snow up here 12 hours ago, got only a quarter inch with freezing rain on top. Bust.
