2/13 Significant/Major Winter Storm Discussion & Observations
s2sailorlis replied to Northof78's topic in New York City Metro
About 2-2.5", no sleet or ice, fat flakes but not overly heavy. Fairfield, Conn 1.5 miles south of Merritt. After years of only owning FWD cars..we just bought a Passport and Forester in the past 3 months, maybe a sign of snow.. -
Two Mdt to high impact events NYC subforum; wknd Jan 6-7 Incl OBS, and mid week Jan 9-10 (incl OBS). Total water equiv by 00z/11 general 2", possibly 6" includes snow-ice mainly interior. RVR flood potential increases Jan 10 and beyond. Damaging wind.

1.27" from the cell over Fairfield, Easton CT. Seemed it all happened in 20 minutes... wind meter hit 23mph but it's in a somewhat protective red area and only 9' off ground.. seems like 40-50moh winds. Driveway was a river as storm drain could not handle water.

Anyone have any idea why someone would want this type of wind instrument? Operated on some pneumatic principal apparently. Comes with some some special fluid... Found at a tag sale, unused, and purchased for $5.00... thought it was cool...Dwyer Instrument still sells them for $170. -
Wifey is happy... me too. have had this station for a week and it works great. $150 well spent. Fairfield, CT

as an observer here i can't add anything to this discussion other than, warm and no snow means..less use of oil for heating, but concerned with Reservoir water levels should we have hot/bone dry summer again...
-
Though the snow possibilities may be gone... is anyone concerned about the winds on Friday ahead of Christmas Eve? I can imagine a travel clusterF, along with a boat load of $$ spent on food sitting in fridge... of course if temps plummet one can store it outside... i did that a while ago... but now have a 6500 Watt generator hooked up to my breaker panel...

Off Fairfield Woods Road and Morehouse HWY. I have a cheapie $10 Accurite funnel gauge, so not sure how accurate... plus it's probably not placed in most optimal area.
