  1. Back down to 35 in Great Falls Impressive temperature contrast in the car thermometer on the drive home from DC: 46 downtown, 41 in Arlington, and 37 at the Beltway & Georgetown Pike.
  2. In theory yes, but I’m skeptical that Fairfax will decide based on temps/ice out here in the hinterlands. There was one event last February where we had early morning ice and 31-32 degrees but much of the county was just wet. I don’t recall that leading to a delay. That said, I think tomorrow will most likely be a delay.
  3. Also heavy frost in Great Falls this morning. 22 for the low. Now up to 38.
  4. 18 for the overnight low in Great Falls.
  5. All sleet now in Great Falls.
  6. Sleet mixed in with the rain in Great Falls. 40 degrees.
  7. 28.6 for the low in Great Falls. Up to 30.6 at 8am.
  8. Looks like IAD made it down to 32. 34 with heavier frost than yesterday in Great Falls.
  9. 33 with a light frost in Great Falls.
  10. Really? We are just down the road this weekend in Canaan (and at a similar elevation) and it was 32 here for the low.
  11. 35.2 for the low in Great Falls.
  12. On the train headed through Delaware and an unfamiliar bright yellow circle just poked momentarily through the clouds. Also, there appear to be streaks of blue in sky.
  13. Drought? ;-) 46 and breezy. High yesterday was 54.
  14. Assume they’ll wait until the last possible minute to cancel (and may try to play 5 innings in the rain) due to the playoff implications.
  15. Just ticked down to 49.8 . Gorgeous fall morning.
  16. Fascinating backstory about the random high point in Great Falls: https://www.restonnow.com/2019/10/07/great-falls-then-and-now-lockmoor-farm/
  17. Pouring in Great Falls (which is becoming a daily occurrence).
  18. Pouring rain and some nice wind in Great Falls. Not much more.
  19. Remarkably pleasant morning in Great Falls. Low of 67 overnight. Just now crossing 80. Enjoying breakfast outside before we scorch this afternoon.
  20. Gorgeous this evening for the kids' last dive meet of the season. Fun counterpart to summer swim.
  21. A big problem with hosting the All-Star Relays is that its a thankless task for the host pool. You need to accommodate (and manage) ~1,000 swimmers from dozens of teams, not to mention all of the spectators. From what I have heard, there are very few pools that are willing to do it. In addition to the logistics, many of your members are likey pissed that the pool is closed for the day. Plus, many of the pools that have the space, etc. to host are not in the top divisions and likely aren't sending many teams to All-Stars (and thus have even less of a reason to volunteer to host). And, then, as you note, there is the further complication that hosting brings a whole bunch of annoying top-division folks to your pool.
  22. Growing up in southeastern New England, Walt Drag's AFDs from Taunton were always a great and informative read in advance of any coming storm.
  23. Hope the Real Pool Dads stayed dry at their meets. We lucked out at ours. Got nearly all of it in during a lull. Much better than expected.
  24. It has been absolutely pouring here in Great Falls for the past hour.
