looks to me like it’s punching through the NE quadrant and providing lift to thunderstorms forming there, and that some lift is also getting thrown from the center as indicated by the lightning drifting a bit from the center

whichever way it goes this is an all-timer for the GFS, you’re going to hear “remember feb 2026?” at some point every winter the rest of your life -
weather modelology is horse racing for nerds and that’s why it’s so entertaining when a model everyone calls “Goofus” scoops one for no apparent reason
