  1. Looks like we hope for lake effect to kick in when cold finally gets here. Synoptic systems have failed us.
  2. Just woke up to go to the bathroom and looked outside. Dusting #192849 on cartops. Radar looks like crap. That Golden Snow Booger Award is mine. Back to bed.
  3. It's 33 degrees here and I definitely don't see it getting warmer. I just hope that precip and the cold air can break through the Finger Lakes forcefield. I just took the garbage to the dumpster and it seems to be just rain atm.
  4. Looking upstream and overhead, it looks like it's just moving too much due Northeast, and not enough easterly movement. Toledo, Oh was supposed to be the southern boundary of the banding. It looks like the precip. is well north of them. For here, the changeover line has stalled just to the west. I have my doubts. Happy watching and enjoy!
  5. The other side of the Tug from you if you want to add it to your bookmarks: (another one of my favorite webcams)
  6. My biggest concern is watching that big dry slot, per usual, forming over the Finger Lakes and moving north. That will cause the large gradient in snowfall amounts. And, naturally, it's moving swiftly north and Syracuse will atleast fall under that dry slot. Not sure about you guys in Rochester.

  8. Looking at the Jines restaurant webcam, it looks like it's snowing pretty good with a coating.
  9. With this weekend's event and IF this was to take place this way...there would be more than just snow dustings melting across the Northeast this week...
  10. Yeah, the snowfalls we've had here this year have come a day or two after temps in the 50 to 70 degree range and have accumulated ok. They definitely melt much faster afterwards though!
  11. It's strange...because Albany and Rochester's have actually had issues on the other end with being too cold. So I'm not sure about that? As we all know (because of yours truly...lol), the Syracuse thermometer has been HOT HOT the past two years.
  12. Yeah, their thermometer is off, as I've been saying for months. I mean, so many months of being the "warmest above average" compared to all the other cities...
  13. Happy for you guys in the Northern Gen. Valley and Niagara Frontier. I wasn't paying too close to here, but was a bit surprised to see it's down to 35 and a bit of a mix occurring. I've seen a few very occasional snowflakes mixing in once in a while.
  14. I do like to research. If you're interested...not sure how much you actually want to know, here's a link about the soils of the area. Soil Survey of Onondaga County, New York (usda.gov) I would say if it the top layer of ground is not frozen, chances are it will be softer or mushier around here in the winter. This is usually because it's either rained or all the snow has melted into the ground and water is sitting there. Since sand is not the predominant soil type (water permeates very quickly through it), water is more often found in the topsoil around here. The Syracuse area in general has lots of wetlands, which is a good sign that many areas do not have well drained soils. It's a part of the natural ecosystem.
  15. Yeah, when I was searching around Upstate NY, I avoided the Dansville to Corning to Elmira area because of their very low snowfall averages. Too far away from the lakes and east coast...and downsloping from the hills.
  16. The Cicero area has lots of Wetlands. I'm not totally sure what the dominant soil type is there, but I imagine there would be a mixture of clay and loam in there. Normally the ground has frozen some, but not this year.
  17. Livingston County...talk about a rough place for an upstate snow lover!
  18. I sure hope so! I honestly haven't paid any attention to the long range the past couple of days. Zippo. Things are so uncertain within a day or two, I am trying not to look too far ahead. Here's to hoping for some real winter!
  19. It looks like that's just the way banding has set up out there. Southern Wisconsin is getting some good snowfall. Chicago is actually supposed to get some lake enhancement. It looks like that same good banding is headed right for Western New York
  20. Iowa and Illinois posters are reporting really good dendrites with 1 to 2 inch per hour rates. Mentioning they are overachieving in many areas. Chicago's not doing so well...seems a bit drier on the northwest side. So perhaps those better ratios and rates translate over to Western NY.
