  1. I remember discussing with some people years ago the diurnal and nocturnal effects on lake effect snow. For example, especially as we get later in the season, the sun's heating tends to create a more cellular structure as opposed to a single band. Then, at night, more solid banding tends to form. You don't read too much about this in NWS discussions though.
  2. It seems like WNW flow events often occur during the wee morning of the hours when I'm supposed to be sleeping...and then I'm up til like 3 in the morning. Is there a meteorological reason that this happens, or has it just been coincidental? I know there are different wind shifts that can occur at night that do affect bands. Is there something that happens overnight that helps to push the bands onshore more?
  3. I was wondering how you guys were doing after looking at the radar I posted above. Boy, do I miss the 2 winters I spent in Muskoka.
  4. I actually like the spray, as I like when more people can get involved. Once you get that single band, it's awesome if you're in it. But, only a select few get to enjoy anything. That's another reason I like lake enhanced snows over pure lake effect. A more broad area can cash in.
  5. I like to check these out as well. They're from the more immediate suburb of Liverpool near Onondaga Lake Parkway. I assess them to see when a snowband from the south might make it's way up here. 6. I love checking out webcams. @BuffaloWeatherteases me about this obsession. lol
  7. @sferic, this is a perfect example of the different world it often is from us in the north burbs to Syracuse itself. Check out the webcam...nary a flake in downtown. Armory Square Webcam in Syracuse, NY | Armory Cam
  8. You can see currently, the strongest snow showers are skipping over the lakeshore on these strong winds. They intensify south and east of a line from Cato to Fulton to Parish.
  9. Um, yeah. I've only been waiting for, (how long?) you and @Thinksnow18 to get me the promised one and send me to the land of exile...
  10. I've gotta say... I love having you in Cicero. We've got all the major north suburbs of Syracuse covered. You in Cicero, CNY in Brewerton, Syrmax in Clay (north side), and me in Bville. It's great coverage!
  11. Oh, how I wish the HRWs were right for once...lol. First one to bring the 2 foot mark into Onondaga (Only through tomorrow night so far):
  12. The winter of 93-94 was the most epic winter of my childhood in Lancaster. Snowstorm...icestorm...snowstorm..ice storm. You could walk on top of the deep pack without falling through at all.
  13. Valentine's Day 07 is the one I was talking about. Yes, truly epic.
  14. If they do seasonal contracts, they've had a few pretty easy years. I imagine more clients are looking for "per plow" after paying for what were weak snow seasons.
  15. Just got finished with the first heavy snow shower of the event. Fresh covering on everything. Roads are going to be nasty...flash freeze. Speaking of that, I can already hear the plows/salt trucks going down the roads. They do a great job of staying on top of them here.
  16. I think that was March 2017. Sleet may not look as pretty as snow when it's falling, but it provides the same white landscape (although almost like a bluish white tint) and lasts sooooooo much longer. Oh, and the plowed piles are HUGE. Trying to drive in a sleetstorm is a nightmare though. I don't know if these guys up here have ever experienced one...but a true sleetstorm is quite the awesome experience (as you know)!
  17. This one has a happy ending... your greatness was recognized...and Agnes had the perfect fairy tale ending: A troll thrown under the bridge on her birthday!
  18. Had a storm in SE PA that dropped several inches of snow, then 4 to 6 inches of SLEET, that then got encased in some freezing rain, and then finished off with a couple more inches of wet snow. It all froze over that night then. That was by far the most dense glacier I have ever experienced! If you didn't get your car or anything else plowed or shoveled before the freeze, it was TORTURE trying to clear it out. That stuff survived weeks of high dewpoints and temps in the 50s.
