  1. I am really thinking the coastal is taking over more and precip is transferring over to that. Based on obs. in PA, I am thinking this is a HUGE nowcast event moreso than with other storms.
  2. Syracuse has been a synoptic wasteland the 3 winters I've lived here. We rely on a similar storm track that you guys do...which has been M.I.A. Might get a sleetfest here overnight.
  3. Well, I done think Rochester's about to get a snowstorm. That map shows about 20 inches... so with the Rochtimster formula for snow measurements, ratios of 75:1, and raging thundersnowstorms, my call for Rochester is 56.329 inches, give or take a few tenths.
  4. Go up on Cindy's Run and give us all a "salute." Holiday Valley - Webcams
  5. My sister in law and her family lived in Pittsburgh (Moon Township) and they said the same thing. They said it was always a couple inches, and ice, ice, ice.
  6. @Syrmax a "lifeless band" was just reported on the Pittsburgh thread.
  7. Nice banding setting up in PA. Many of the guys in South central PA are already reporting 3 to 5 inches of snow after snowing for less than 3 hours. That area in Northern PA is NOT sleet.
  8. Love the rare occasions my hometown overachieves!
  9. Have fun, western NY guys. .NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/... ...MAJOR WINTER STORM TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY... Regional radars early this evening showing leading edge of snow entering the western Southern Tier. Observations along the western Southern Tier into northern Pennsylvania supporting a rapid increase in intensity to the snow once it starts, with visibilities dropping to an mile or less. Snow will move quickly to the north likely reaching the south shore of Lake Ontario by 9 pm. The heaviest snowfall rates still look to be several hours away, but we should start see snowfall rates exceeding an inch per hour across western New York by midnight and increasing to perhaps as much as 3+ inches per hour overnight into Monday morning.
  10. I saw a snowflake land on the ground here and it just "poofed" into a cloud of steam. The sizzle is real.
  11. It looks like the coastal low is taking over faster and the primary is dying out? Perhaps Pittsburgh is dealing with the dwindling effects of the primary (on easterly winds) while Central PA (where there isn't any sleet as of yet) is getting the effects of the secondary on more of a NEly wind. Maybe?
  12. There are lots of reports in the Pittsburgh thread of the snow mixing with or changing to sleet and then back to snow like every other minute.
  13. Glad to read you guys are getting hit nicely. Enjoy!
  14. I was wondering the same thing as I was looking at radar. It looks like the area along the coast is developing more than the inland low.
  15. Well, my hood has the deepest pack of our whole trip and there's a base to work off of. (Thank you, Lake Ontario.) Really hoping for some snowfall surprises...maybe dynamic cooling if it doesn't seem like the best setup.
  16. Yeah, I got a few pictures of it. Pretty cool looking shot of the moon with the clouds.
  17. It's always a great wintry feeling in NY when you're in the negative digits for temperatures two days in a row and then Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky get more snow from a synoptic low that goes to your south and east while you get sleet. Makes total sense. Lol
  18. A CNY weenie could only hope that somehow the Rap and HRRR are right with this one...
