  1. Whatever grass was exposed is just about covered up again. Hoping for several inches today.
  2. Temp has dropped quickly to 25 degrees and it's snowing nicely. However, they're what has become the typical Syracuse snowflakes that are the size of dandruff flakes. Might be why radar isn't showing much here.
  3. Sleet didn't last long, as it transitioned pretty quickly to a VERY wind-whipped graupel-like snowfall. Funny how cold the windy 30 degree air feels after a couple of days of 40s/50s.
  4. I don't know. Maybe for you guys. I see the Finger Lakes Forcefield combined with the Syracuse Snow Shield are in strong effect as the cold air finally wraps in. Waiting to see if that bit down near Jamestown fills in more as the wraparound digs in.
  5. Got woken up by sleet pelting the window. Surprised to see some snowpack still survived the torch. It's gotta be the multiple ice/sleet mixed in with the snow episodes we had here through January/very early February. Checking radar, I see the Finger Lakes area doing its normal thing with a big dryslot soaring north just as it gets cold enough for snow.
  6. We need to totally reprioritize the goals of our education system...and that's all I'm going with on that matter on here.
  7. This is one of those fronts where it's a 15 degree difference from one side of a town to the other. You can currently see it in the Southern Oswego to Auburn to Wellsville areas. Just to my Northwest as of now.
  8. Regardless, I am thinking the morning rush hour is going to be a mess. Flooded roads, flash freezing with ice, and a layer of snow on top. I could see lots of schools having delayed starts in the morning.
  9. Hm. The 0Z runs of most of the mesos, and also the Nam (surprisingly) have upped the totals for Onondaga county. Possibly 3 to 6 inches in Northwest Onondaga county through Saturday.
  10. @Syrmax, I think you should check out pages 41 and 43 of the "Feb. 16-17th" thread in the Great Lakes Subforum. Has lots of language in it that you might find interesting...
  11. I'm a bit surprised by how much the snowpack is holding on here. Must be all the refreezes and sleet mixed in there. Places under heavy tree canopies (pines) or those south facing slopes/open areas are grass but pretty much everywhere else is a solid several inches.
  12. Please. We might be able to do a late run to catch up to the past 2 weak winters!
  13. Can Binghamton, Albany, and Syracuse just have a snowstorm where we don't suck this season?
  14. Beautiful look. Hopefully it doesn't lead to suppression. Would love to have front hang up to our south with lows riding alongside. March tends to provide more moisture transport as well.
  15. It's hard finding many people in society who aren't morons when it comes to understanding at least some of the science of meteorology. We weenies need our place.
  16. On latest runs, it looks like the front isn't going to move far enough south in time for mid next week. Meh. Hopefully by the end of the week.
  17. Great winter for them! Based on several next weeks, could be a record season for them? Didn't look it up, but perhaps?
  18. Whew, the Nam 3k and several of the Mesos are showing a possible advisory-level snow for the Lake Ontario southshore from Bville westward to Rochester on Friday. It's getting closer.
  19. A low over Syracuse and a low over Jamestown? You don't say.................................................................................
  20. It's been a month full of 40s. Pretty impressive how the low dewpoints have helped the snow to survive. It really puts into perspective how winters are out west with the skiing conditions. Temps in the 40s but low dewpoints makes a big difference in snow pack survival.
  21. Pattern is definitely looking quite active from this point forward for the next several weeks. Looks like wintry risks and not a "total shutout" until March like some discussion had been on. Looks like into next week is a transition period of warmups with fronts and snow behind them..and then perhaps a pretty solid transition back to winter for a couple weeks?
