  1. You know the earth is warming when a cool-down becomes an "interesting" event. Unless there's flurries involved...lol
  2. Eh, not so sure about that. We have been forecasted to have several day cool downs the past couple weeks and this upcoming week...and then as we end up closer they become a one day cool-down and then it's back to the 80s again. WARM is the rule anymore...
  3. I'm so sorry to hear this, BW. So many are either losing their jobs or those that are working, are working their butts off to exhaustion.
  4. Yeah, I noticed that. Seemed the strongest winds in the eye wall were verrrry confined. Not widespread horrible winds. Storm surge not nearly as bad as predicted. Watching the Mets spread all over, it seemed pretty "meh" with the typical gusts. Obs for Shreveport and Little Rock didn't look anywhere close to what their advanced models showed. She petered out pretty quickly by the time she hit Arkansas. This is where it can be tough for media meteorology. You can be extremely cautious and give thorough warnings, with it ending up not as bad....or downplay it and then have big issues when bad things happen. Being overly cautious brings in higher ratings though...so that seems like more of a win-win for them. Still a lot of work to repair things, I am sure....and grieving for the several families who lost somebody.
  5. P.S. Did you see the picture of 81 in downtown Cuse under water this morning from the 8 am storms?
  6. BAHAHA! Good to see you posting... it's been a while. Meteorology is definitely a science of which people seem completely oblivious. Perhaps in part due to an over-dramatic media? Current weather: you can tell where the warm front is. Training thunderstorms over Syracuse/Central NY with temps around 70. To the west in the Finger Lakes/Southern Tier temps approaching mid to upper 80s. To the north and east of us temps in the mid 60s. 25 degree difference from Finger Lakes to Mohawk Valley.
  7. Reports of wind damage from the 8 am storms in the Bville area over to Plainville. I don't see any damage in my area of Lysander. Current storm just dumped the rain.
  8. Yeah, I was just watching the video with Timmer. Indeed..."Beautiful" circulation. I'm trying to picture the kind of storm surge they're about to deal with there....It's incredible to think of something like Lake Ontario spilling water the WHOLE way to here in the north burbs of Syracuse. I really hope most people were able to get out of there and to safety.
  9. I wonder how long Jim Cantore and Steph will stay live on TWC....Everybody told to leave....TWC sends people. lol
  10. What a glorious late summer (fall-like) day today!!! I saw people pulled out the hoodies...but I still wore my shorts and flip flops. lol
  11. Yikes! This is just one of many reasons I would not live in the deep south. When you look at the many different types of intense weather and natural elements other areas of the country/world deal with, we really are blessed to live in a place with a temperate climate and meteorological balance. Lake effect snow is fascinating and others may have the perspective that it's a "horrible things to deal with", but in reality it is fairly minute in comparison to some of these other phenomena in terms of damage, destruction, and suffering.
  12. Hmm..we don't seem to have as much of a drought issue here in the Syracuse area. Grass is pretty green. We seemed to have lucked out with some rains throughout the summer. I know my family in PA has been chatting about the extremely dry conditions there as well.
  13. Interesting that Fulton's is the highest. I know it's one of the more populated areas of the county....I wonder how much of it is impacted by commuters to the Syracuse area, or if more people in Fulton are ignoring guidelines. Perhaps the poorer health of people in the community?
  14. Looking forward to the chilly night tonight. I am hoping this week marks the last of the 90 degree temps. Pretty please. Going through historical data for the past handful of Septembers, there have definitely been a fair share of 80 degree days. Well-above normal Septembers have been common as of late.
  15. The YMCA here in Baldwinsville...is on strictly reserved usage. You can make reservations to use the track, basketball courts and pool and they are doing "live stream classes" but I look forward to being able to actually go and use the facilities again. It is a very popular, newer Y, so I imagine it may be difficult to get a "slot" when they do open back up at a minimum capacity.
  16. Did you end up finding one, or are did you decide to wait until things calm down a bit?
  17. Aw, I am so sorry and saddened to hear this. Is this related to her cancer journey or something else? I am a man of prayer and will be praying for peace and comfort for you and your family during this tough time. Regardless of what you believe or don't believe, please don't hesitate to shoot me a message. Life is so short and fleeting.
  18. Good point! I know you definitely enjoy life. It's all in balance. I make some sacrifices to work at a job that I love but don't get paid very well...so money is not as readily available to spend on big things. My wife, being an amazing saver, finds it more challenging to get out and spend money on fun things. Some of that deals with her past of growing up in poverty though.
  19. Awesome! Thanks for sharing. My wife is the amazing budget person in our family and an Emergency Fund is so so important. A little plug: Dave Ramsey has many great tips that have helped many Americans get out of a financial crisis.
  20. If FB Marketplace was an actual indicator of price drops or increases, I would say prices have gone WAAAAAY up....lol Scrolling through this weekend, I was surprised at how many things were being sold like JUST under their original sales price. I think this is an indicator though of just how many people may be selling things to try and make ends meet.
  21. I thought it was an opposite situation with the Jet Streams...at least the Pacific and Northern Jet Stream. Raging fast with little ability for cold air to punch south and get blocked...which would be more likely if we could get a -NAO that actually lasts a while...but that can't happen because the Jet is moving so quickly.
  22. Indeed! It's almost like a sale at a store where they say, "It's only $....." and then putting in tiny wording discussing taxes. So a person forgets about that. We need a big poster alongside these unemployment checks saying, "$300!!! But deduct some from that because of TAX."
