  1. Sometimes I regret not taking the job in Springville...
  2. You guys out west in the Buffalo area getting any snow from those showers? Probably any hour now.
  3. 18Z runs showing the Northern Onondaga screw zone in effect. Strong and transitional winds, proximity to Lake Ontario, my presence, and low elevation ftw.
  4. Great discussion, guys. I think some of it is true winter to me is having some consistent snowcover along with falling snow. I think Delta was talking about that earlier in the week? Although the past 10 to 20 years have had some increasing snowfall, the ability for it to stick around has generally been lacking.
  5. You would...haha. I am thinking the same. An inch that will melt during the day tomorrow...then maybe another inch tomorrow night. Syracuse has broken so many warm records lately. I wish I lived here when winters used to be real winters!
  6. Friday was a no-show snow and tomorrow is looking less exciting for this area as we get closer. Hopefully it's not 5 months of this!
  7. That's the "NW flow event" I waited for the entire winter I was there!
  8. If he's a troll, he "won" because you're showing your irritation with him. I know...sometimes it's very hard to ignore. I took it as maybe an attempt at humor of "one day in November below normal" and the "month" will temporarily be "below normal" up to that first or second day...
  9. So true! Thanks for the reminder. While places outside of the lakes see sun and the roads slushing up, we can keep the fun going. I was a bit confused too. I hope so. But if it ends up a Westerly flow and then shifts northwest, we will be the dreaded transition zone.
  10. Thanks! I hope so. I'm trying really hard not to look at any models because I don't want to get caught up in the highs and lows of changes every 6 hours. haha
  11. Congrats on the snow friends in the Catskills and Eastern NY. Hoping to see my first flakes and accumulation in the Sunday-Tuesday time period.
  12. Nice! I'm definitely envious. For now, I'll watch it live on Watertown's webcam...one of my favorites. https://www.webcamtaxi.com/en/usa/new-york/watertown-thompson-park.html
  13. My parents called last night, saying they heard "we could get a foot of snow" on Friday. I told them there was no way it was going to happen. They live in PA. I have lived in the Great Lakes weather zones long enough to know how these things generally work. As of this evening, looks like it just misses Syracuse to the south. I even told myself I was NOT going to check things out this week and see what happens...I couldn't wait...lol...and even though I'm not at all surprised it's looking meh for here, I'm still shocked...haha. Good prep for winter.
  14. Hmmmmm....I've neeeever seen this kind of battle between them....neeeeeever................................................
  15. Oh no...here come the body shots again....Last time I think it was biceps...This time it looks like we'll be seeing shots of calves across Upstate New York...Perhaps we make a calendar?
  16. Beautiful evening here. Beautiful fall colors, and then the sunset...oh, the sunset! I LOVE Fall!!!
  17. With the changing climate (whether it be temporary or not), this is certainly true these days. My wife and I will continue to traverse this latitude as a "mutual" thing...too warm for me still, and too cold for her...lol. She dreads even going on a trip to Alaska because she thinks I will find a job while we're there. Bahaha. The Great Lakes Coastal plains are great for seeing snow (Even in crap winters) but are sooooo unreliable for snow retention, which is the part that sucks for me. The ability for it to rapidly warm up...boo in my opinion. It's almost like a mini Chinook....get a wind from the SW, and the temps will skyrocket. Just this week, it was in the upper 40s...then a SW wind kicked in and the temp jumped 15 degrees in an hour. In this current "pattern" or whatever we're in, everything is biased towards warm. I have considered looking at homes in the Tully area or back up in the Tug...but then you run into lack of access to commodities (wife likes these) and longer commutes (I dislike these), etc... Everything in balance. If Central NY had a better Public Transportation system, I would easily live in an area with higher elevation and less prone to thaws and commute to the Syracuse area via public transportation. (I have no desire to drive through Syracuse for a commute...so the northern suburbs it is.
  18. Yet another day where Syracuse is waaaaay warmer than many places waaaaaaay south of here...over 10 degrees warmer here than D.C. It's unreal how often this city overachieves in warm pushes and gets warmer than most places hundreds of miles south. Being a cold weather fanatic, it drives me nuts. The explanation I have for it is downsloping off the hills directly south of here. This city may get a decent amount of snow, but I would not call it a "cold-weather" city. Mild, mild, mild.
  19. Looking at obs, it looks like you guys out in Western NY are having quite the windy day today..
  20. The wife and I are going there next weekend to celebrate our 13th anniversary. Hoping for some fall colors to remain there and at our B&B in the Finger Lakes.
  21. We had quite the storm roar through here around 2 pm. Looked like several cloud-to-ground strikes around my work building. My students were so amped up by it...we watched for a couple minutes, and then I had to close the blinds because it was distracting...for them AND me. lol I am actually a bit surprised by the amount of fall colors that survived the beating today. On to the 3rd round of color changes....
