  1. It's MUCH cheaper to live in Tennessee and a couple of the surrounding states...and they have some great schools AND programs that benefit residents who act responsibly and work hard to benefit the state.
  2. You live in rural areas. Any towns doing well in Upstate have ridiculous prices...it adds to class structure issues. In Baldwinsville, many apartments are 1100 t0 1700 A MONTH unless you get a dumpy place or can apply for assistance. Otherwise it's just another screw-job to those of us in the middle class who can't afford ridiculous monthly rents or mortgages...we get paid "too much" for assistance, but don't make enough to live among the wealthy. I believe it's a HUGE reason people are moving out.
  3. Come on guys....there's a reason everybody's leaving this state...
  4. Much of Upstate New York is partially poor because of low pay and ridiculous taxes...which the state government doesn't do much to help with. NYC, Albany, and Cuomo rob Upstate New York..they are part of the problem.
  5. Yup...something to watch...move farther and farther away....
  6. This ticked me off. Our delightful governor pretty much shaming Upstate New York for "not taking this seriously." We have been extremely patient in our "not so important to him" world of Upstate New York. In talking with friends and family in other states, we Upstaters have been dealing with this for pretty much longer than any other area of the country, and much more respectfully towards our fellow citizens. He should thank us all for not rioting and waving "our guns" at him like other states have at their governors. I'm sure he'll somehow find a way to blame us for the downfall of the state's economy, along with the "racism of Covid." As a fairly new resident of this state, I am boggled as to how Upstate New York has NOT seceded from New York City and its suburbs. There are just too many differences between SE New York state and Upstate. This is even more proof that NYC and its politics holds us down. Way to alienate the rest of "your" state, governor.
  7. Schools have been working so very hard to stay open. My school has been open all year with the option of students doing virtual. Almost all have chosen in-person and are so thankful. As I sit here during transition time, I think sometimes the students don't realize how fortunate they are to be in person...but I think deep inside they are SO happy to be here.
  8. I don't think they need to be closed. The numbers are sooo sooo low. I'm not sure if you're just asking rhetorically, or if you were under the impression I was saying schools should be closed. I don't think they need to be. (Although sometimes I wish they were because I am exhausted! )
  9. Two of the schools in the district I live in (Baldwinsville) did asymptomatic testing of 261 school individuals on Monday and only 1 tested positive. There are several quarantined from tests earlier in the month. That would be .38%
  10. Thanks for mentioning that. I can definitely see that...which is maddening when we the teachers are being pressed so much to be the masking/social distancing police...we only have them for 6.5 hours! Based on current trends, kudos to educators!
  11. Great question. I'm sure there are. Surprisingly school results, as far as I am aware of, have been pretty private. I'm sure if many were testing positive, we'd be hearing about it. As has been discussed on here recently, schools have not been one of the main sites of spread.
  12. I know schools make up a small portion of those being tested in NY, but those of us in schools in the "higher risk" zones are getting the free rapid-tests done. Most of these individuals are not infected.
  13. Yes, it's ridiculous. Here, Baldwinsville School District is made up of the towns of Van Buren and Lysander. The schools in Lysander (yellow zone) have to have 20% of their student/staff population tested for Covid, but the schools in Van Buren (no zone) do not...despite those schools having more positive results over the past several months. Meaningless when extra-curricular activities, siblings and staff are shared between schools in the two towns. The river is not a magic line between Covid and no Covid.
  14. Yeah, what a mess! Who are these random people jumping in here all aggressively? Way too much time on their hands? Jumping around from thread to thread to bicker and repeat themselves angrily. We have some great posters in our subforum...things can just turn ugly pretty quickly with so many political opinions. Buffalowx to me seems to be a pretty balanced guy, so I would trust his perspective on a situation (whatever drama is going on in some other site). On another note...a friend of mine, a pretty staunch Republican, posted on his FB page this week that he now knows 17 people who have Covid and that it is NO joke. He said many of them are really struggling right now.
  15. Looking at webcams, it looks like Rome (Oneida county) had enough to shovel.
  16. Just as the band shifts south from Oswego county, it falls apart. Looks like another dusting marked down...and wait of another couple weeks to get our first inch here in the NW Syracuse burbs. I really doubt how much Lake effect snow this area gets...I am thinking it's more lake-enhanced on the back side of well-pathed systems, which were missing last year.
  17. Southwestern Oswego county and Northwestern Onondaga county are in such a crap transition zone. What area of Oswego County are you in? Are you just north of Clay?
  18. Whew! I said my peace and then checked out because I wanted nothing to do with the bantering. Looks like LOTS of talk has occurred since. There's a difference between healthy discussion/bantering and toxic bantering where NOTHING is accomplished but more division. Honestly, Republicans...Democrats...neither are innocent...so my stance is I have no "side" to defend when it comes to politics. It's actually quite freeing. What I will stand up for is the proper treatment and actual respect for my fellow human. Republican rebels, for heaven's sakes, put the freakin' mask on and stop "anti social distancing" to prove a point. Its so childish. I have to wear a mask for work and I hate it...but two and a half months in to the school year, and I have had far less students absent this year than before. There hasn't been much sickness...I think our current masking, social distancing, and CONSTANT disinfecting have reduced pathogen spread. Democrats, stop trying to cast all blame on one individual...Trump...and anybody else who thinks "certain" things about Covid are being dramatized and driven by the liberal media to cause more havoc. Stop denying Trump's successes in building our economy just because "you hate him." It's so childish. The naivety and total dedication to one party and all the CRAP it believes just boggles my mind. BALANCE is key.
  19. Wow, you guys are getting hit hard over there in Western NY. Winds have been pretty minor here in comparison. Stay safe.
  20. Interesting! I didn't know that was usually the case. My post might have sounded sarcastic...but I really did find the 5 minute burst very interesting! haha... I mean, it was moving at 65 miles per hour, so it was bound to sweep through quickly.
  21. After a gusty wind all day, it was eerily calm...then a strong 5 minute burst of heavy rain, wind gusts, and hail (seemed more like graupel?)... and then back to breezy and a light rain. It was a very interesting 5 minute cold front!
  22. Whew...it's about to plow through here. Time to go sit at the window!
  23. The amount of disrespect you guys show to anybody who supports Trump is disgusting. You've made it quite clear on post after post that you hate Trump and that you want him out. I have several issues with Trump AND Biden...and I will not be saying anything obnoxious or disrespectful about either of them on here. What? Posting endless tirades about it on your Personal Facebook pages wasn't enough? How about starting a new banter topic? I knew I should have stayed out of this banter thread. Maybe I'll start a new one that has NOTHING to do with politics, as I want to have interactions with you guys on here that aren't politically toxic crapola.
