Wow! Yeah, I was watching that train over you and down through Madison county. The Canastota area seemed to get hit pretty good. Probably being away from the big lake helped them stay colder. When I checked the webcams there, the Thruway was covered, along with all other surfaces. -

If it stays on this course, looks like my sis in law in Tennessee could see the first inch of snow before some of us. Seems to be an increasing trend that the Mid-Atlantic and up through lower elevations of New York State/Parts of New England are one of the last places to see their first accum. snowfall. Clock-work: Cold air dives down through the Plains Southeastward and then we get this big ridge that cuts the storms up to the west of us while the Mid-South gets some winter. I know that's a common late fall pattern. I suppose we see where all these parts play on the "chess board" and if we can shake things up. -

Yeah, if we don't have some cold, it's pretty much another maritime climate...with damp, dark 40s and 50s. That's why clipper patterns are some of my favorites. Most of the rest of the country hates them...but that's when the Great Lakes region can prosper. The clipper pattern has been pretty rare the past decade. I recall a couple of winters in the 2000s having some good clipper patterns. -

One of my favorite things about living in the Great Lakes region is you can usually get some surprises in there...even if the pattern is meh. The pattern has been so infiltrated with either Pacific air or SE Ridging the past couple winters that even our location/generally lower elevation can't make much of anything work in it. If we could just get some marginal cold air that hangs in for longer than 24 hours... -

Ha! Well, this year, you have been doing much better than most of us in Onondaga County. When I first moved to Upstate New York, I thought, "Wow, I moved into a jackpot - " Oh, who am I kidding...I moved to Upstate New York and the climate has been downhill since. -

Syracuse had 171 inches of snow and Fulton 274 inches (holy cow, 100 inch difference!) that winter. I will take it please. Also a reminder of why I need to move 10 miles north. lol -

Not dumb - Wolfie pasted a report in discussion about Biden and Trump...and their "connections" to Socialism and I responded. I am stepping out because I got involved in something that I hate talking about and try to avoid - politics - because it often goes nowhere. My apologies to all for getting involved and filling this thread with crap. I can only control myself and how I can help support others. I am not a policies person anyways. I am a relational guy...hence why I teach! Peace. -

Good point. I am not condoning business owners stand around with their guns and anti-mask signs...I do, however, condone the SPIRIT of supporting one another financially and through services (however that may be). As mentioned, I love how people in my community wisely do that. As I always mention, it's about balance...and that's the true battle going on right now - how to stay open and stay afloat while following regulations. Even with all the support, I am saddened to see businesses closing down around here this past year. My heart is truly for people...not "what can I get out of it." -

@wolfie09, the article about the Trump passing the CARES Act as socialism is humorous. These are extreme circumstances and he most certainly needed to help people. I can't imagine the Democrat response if he hadn't done anything. Biden "may be a moderate' but his Vice Presidential Elect certainly is not. Let's be real...Biden isn't going to be calling the shots. -

I will say I am thankful to live in a community where the local New Yorkers truly care about their small businesses and support them in many wise and safe ways. Baldwinsville has lots of community support and pride. -

So, I say I love our country because of small business support and you all get all riled up?? lol... Ok, New Yorkers. Maybe you're oblivious to how your own state government runs off anybody who tries to support a local business here. Nahhh, nothing to do with the raging liberals here. I completely support looking out for employees where businesses...especially CORPORATE America...needs some control, as they totally take advantage and dispose of people like they're trash..it disgusts me...which is one of many reasons I will not "stand" with Republicans. -

Oh my word, shut up. I didn't say anything about not being cautious with Covid. Calm your panties. You and wolfie can go hang out with your loves, Mr. Cuomo and Pelosi, with 5 masks on and 50 feet apart for Thanksgiving. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you are ignorant and don't know that I am not a raging Republican. I prefer to look at things in BALANCE. You should give it a try. -

When it comes down to it, many Americans love our rights to free enterprise...and it is something I love about our country. The ability to support one another through our businesses is such a fantastic thing. I wish there were some who understood that these local business owners are grasping at straws to stay afloat. One political part of Covid that is really boosting the Socialist agenda is the push to control these businesses. I fear that the next couple of years could see a demise of the amazing free enterprise that has shaped American culture and communities. This raising money for him is proof that many people do not want that to happen. -
Central PA 2020 Fall - The Hope begins
TugHillMatt replied to paweather's topic in Upstate New York/Pennsylvania
Just dropping in...but wanted to respond that this is one of the most respectful Covid-caution pleas I have read on the internet. If only more could follow. I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving! Sadly, I won't be coming back to see any of my family in Central PA for this holiday because of Covid. Christmas is looking iffy too. -

Looks absolutely putrid for most of our region. I realize we have some chances for something to work out through next week...but yuck. Most of North America looks meh. The Midwest looks to have the best chances at this point. Managed to get a little bit of snow here in the last hour...like one tenth of an inch...lol. But, I went for my late night walk and am enjoying staying up late with no work the rest of the week. (Well, I do have a gazillion papers to grade...) -

I mean, holy moley, I thought it was just a fluke last year....but NW winds are CRAP for this area. Truly, WNW and soooometimes Northerly flow seem to be the only flows that can provide for this area. Horrible transition zone. So maddening. Still looking for something in the Granby/Hannibal/S. Fulton areas. Loosely looking at Volney, but hesitate with a half hour plus commute. It'll warm up tonight and THEN the precip. will reach the ground as rain...or it'll just be a virga "storm" all night.
