I feel like this area actually does better with N or NNW flow...won't produce anything heavy with a shorter fetch, but hits us more directly than the goofy diagonal angles of a NW flow.
True. The December storm I believe looked very similar to this several days ahead. I just hope that IF we can actually get the "NW trend" to work for us, that more us can benefit than Binghamton this time.
Wow! That would have been quite the thing to see! I'm sure the roads were a fiasco. I would love for us to get some of those negatively tilted troughs.
JUST, NO. We are finally building a snowpack. Take your stupid SW flow and shove it. Joking...mostly.
LOL!!!
After this week's mess of a system, I am thinking this winter will be one where we have to count on whatever lake effect we can get. The synoptic pattern just isn't working out for us. These primaries with transfers to the coast often have so many issues with them. Wish we could see some of the deep coastal systems of the 90s that move due north along the coast.
As a winter lover, I would in general find Geneva a tough place to live in. My wife and I love the town, countryside and walking along the lake there though. It just seems to be in a lake effect snow hole. You miss out on most of the wind directions.
I don't think I've seen a decent NW wind "event" since moving here? I know they're almost never as potent as the Westerly or SW events...but I have yet to be impressed by one. There were a couple times last winter where we had some nice Northerly flow lake enhancement off the backside of systems. Those were nice surprises, as they dropped several inches of fluff after the synoptic. But, NW flow? Yaaaawn.
Our NWS offices appear very unenthusiastic about any lake effect snow this week and snow possibilities early next week. This is especially true for BUF. They have an inch...maybe two for the north Finger Lakes from lake effect and a 30% chance for snow early next week.
Funny how we are finally getting in a better winter pattern and they're all scroogey...lol
I don't know about the Lake effect coming. I am guessing with the strong winds, the snow showers/bands will be shredded and any lake effect snow that forms will be blown the whole way to Marathon, Ithaca, and Binghamton.
Just wanted to say that I have always appreciated (including when I lived in Western Michigan) your interaction with individuals on here. I think it's awesome you're willing to get input from others on here. Admirable.
