Looks like Oswego county got several inches last night. The colleague who lives in Oswego came to work with the remnants and said they had quite a bit. D winter continues. Yesterday was a beautiful late winter day though. -

Hmmm...looks like March continues to look a bit more wintry as we get closer. At least the start of it. Went out with the kiddos and played in the snow today. It is DENSE stuff. One of them broke the one ice layer off and it must have been 3/4th of an inch thick. -

It's been snowing here this morning. Just had one of the heaviest graupel showers I've ever seen. Now back to snowflakes. Everything, including roads, is covered in a new layer. -

Much peace for you as you go through this tough time. Thanks for sharing with us. This is a special place when you feel safe coming here and knowing that we are here for you regardless of distance and whether we know you face to face. I am here if you need to shoot a private message and just grieve to a "stranger." -

I think the surprise synoptic 4 inches of snow we got here the other day that you guys missed out on helped us too. We're pretty much down to where we were at before that snowfall -
Wow. These are fantastic comparison shots! I definitely prefer the top one.

For sure! Sleet is hardy stuff against thaws. -

Yeah, I have driven through there several times and they are tucked between some steep hills. My thinking is that usually downsloping is maximized when there is some room/space at the bottom of those higher elevations...like a longer, flatter valley. -

Dansville blew past all of us and hit 60 degrees today! THEY are the tropics of Upstate NY. Consistently seems to ring in with the maximum high. Sometimes Elmira challenges them...and once in a while the Cuse. Not sure if their thermometer/airport is in a warm microclimate location, or if they truly are primed for maximum downsloping and other warming factors. -

Yeah, as you mentioned in another post, it's really compacted and very dense. Well over a foot left still. The more we get these little melts and freezes, the more it glaciates the snowpack. This upcoming weekend's 40s and rain has me wondering a bit though....the snow lover I am, I would love to keep it a few more weeks. Well, you had lots of lake effect fluff, which disappears so much faster than synoptic (usually). -

I'm a little surprised the snowpack is barely melting here with a temp in the mid 40s... it must be super dense and packed now with all the ice layers. The low dewpoint in the 20s and overcast skies are probably helping to reduce melt as well. -

The GEFS have been the opposite of what they were all last year. They've looked blah for much of the season for us this year... -

That's exactly what I gave this winter as of last week as well. Our zone has been MEH this winter. -

Yes, please! These types of melt-offs are enough to please both Spring-lovers and winter-lovers. Spring-lovers see the snow disappearing, while winter lovers can still enjoy and look at a winter scene (mind you it can look sort of meh...) Those types of patterns can be GREAT for producing some nice storms. It has been super icy around here in the mornings. Lots of people falling in parking lots! -

Syracuse is obviously in 3rd place...as we know how Rochester "measures" snow. -

Welcome to Spring in the Great Lakes states. In my opinion. the Falls make up for it. Soooo beautiful and longer than in some other locales. Fall (mid-September through October), surprisingly, is my favorite season...followed very closely by Winter. -
It's been noticeable here in Central NY as well. We get some of our best snows on the back side of Lows on those NW winds blowing over Lake Ontario. Barely at 50% of average snowfall for the season.

As a HUGE fan of snow, I find the process of snow melting so depressing. Let it snow snow snow...May 1st it hits the low 70s with a light breeze and a low of 50....and it can stay THAT way through August. -

Yes!!! I was super psyched when we got hit with the 2 inch snow squall here in mid-May last year! For it to snow during the day, cover everything, and have some of it survive to the evening...IMPRESSIVE. Of course I was one of the only nerds excited about it...
