  1. Wow, what a glorious winter that was for Syracuse. Looks like there was consistent snowpack and snowfall throughout the winter. There were a couple of the typical, annoying thaws, but they look to have been temporary and snowpack remained afterwards. Looking through data, I can really tell when there was lake effect fluff, as the pack would go down big time despite cold temperatures. Then, I can tell when there was moisture-laden synoptic snow, because the pack would go down a few inches despite temps being near 50 degrees (with perhaps low dewpoints as well).
  2. Hard to go against above normal temperatures, especially in Sizzlecuse 2000. 130 to 140 inches after the past couple winters will seem like LOTS of snow. Well, it is a great amount of snow. Crazy to think that's 50 inches more than we've picked up the past couple years! Hopefully those cold outbreaks will last a decent while and/or the "above average" will because of mild 30s that snowpack can survive in.
  3. If we get another 100 < inch winter, there is no denying the snow abyss that exists over my head... haha! Your poor car! Where did you take all the separate pieces?
  4. Lysander averages about the same as Lowville. But, our winter temperatures are milder than up there. Average high is around 30 in winter compared to your mid 20s.
  5. The south side of Watertown and into southern Jefferson county does really well. They've been rockin' it the past several years. Lots of WSW and SW winds have brought some good events even to Watertown itself. Yes, the more dominant westerly wind (usually) can add some consistency.
  6. Nice! Welcome. Head's up: Lowville does tend to get shadowed by the higher elevations of the Tug...MUCH less than 10 miles west and higher up. But, average snowfall of 130 inches with below freezing temps most of the winter is SOLID winter. I looked for job opportunities there, but the economy of Lewis county (and rural NY in general) is pretty tough. I was born and raised in Lancaster, PA (moved away in my early 20s)....so "welcome" to another PA native!
  7. So, I'm curious...When are you guys going to banish me to say.... Worth ......so your winters get better? I'm still waiting for that cabin amongst the "toothless people" that @Syrmax promised me.... https://www.northernchateau.com/camgd.php?updatefreq=5&camsite=1&cam=2
  8. Yeah, same here. I've seen a few graupel/snow showers this afternoon.
  9. It was musings about the start of lake effect season. I'm not disappointed much at all...not surprised at all as I could tell from radar last night it was waaay north. Many more of these to come...and hopefully some nice surprises.
  10. Beautiful morning though. I have a nice Fall color picture, but it keeps telling me it's too big even after cropping multiple times. Just picture multiple fall colors.
  11. First lake effect bust of the season. Couldn't even muster a dusting...or even flakes? Sun shining even under radar returns... Maybe we'll get a graupel pellet. Lol
  12. Hey, I just perused some of the off-topic discussions. Yeah, I can understand now why that person is no longer a moderator. Yikes. Also, some of the other "moderators" that post on there...I'm disgusted by their behavior and bullying tactics. They really should lose their "tags" as well. I'm so glad we don't have a power-tripping moderator on our sub that tries to dictate others and bully them around. I love our Subforum! Toxic-free, other than when a few of those individuals troll our banter thread.
  13. I still kick myself for not taking the job in Springville. But we had some other reasons for choosing this area, non-weather related...
  14. Perhaps there's a chance.... maybe I can start dusting #1 of 434343293209 for the season?
  15. Wow, that "1 to 2 inch" coloration would extend into my area of Onondaga county. But, I am very skeptical...perhaps I will wake up to trace amounts/slushy dusting on cars and small bush leaves.
  16. He, Syrmax/Brian, and King/George have been quiet lately. Perhaps they're all in his basement building a catapult to fling me and my curse outta their zone to the hinterlands...
  17. Maybe he ended up finding his place way up in the clouds out west and has no internet? I hope he is well. Hoosier was such a vital part of the sub and it almost seems like he has been "demoted?" Not sure what happened there. Seems like the Iowa/Illinois crew is the most active on there.
  18. Yeah, we are a bunch of LES weenies here...lol. My previous username on here was "blackrock" and I lived in the Muskegon/Spring Lake area. So I represented that little part of West Michigan. Lake effect snow has been greatly lacking in that area this decade, so maybe some have lost interest. In fact the average snowfall has dropped nearly 20 inches there! As buffalowx said, you are definitely welcome here, and many would probably enjoy talking with you during future events about how factors up in your area might aide in things down wind here. I love Gaylord...my wife and I almost moved there, but it "was too far north for her." Hmph. Wives. Lol
  19. Nice! My friends in West Michigan are reporting snow this morning. Not on the ground, but falling. I have noticed the Lakes forum has been quieter lately. What's going on over there?
  20. Looks like wet snow/slush on Lowville live webcam: https://linkinglewiscounty.com/Live-Traffic-Weather-Cam-South-State-Street-Lowville.html
  21. I warned everyone the warmth was going to prevail. Heck, we continue to get 3 to 5 degrees above forecasted highs pretty much every day...unless the clouds are thick as can be and block as much blazing sunlight as possible. Hopefully the "roller coaster" we are entering is the start of a change from the endless warm weeks and months and a transition to a more "normal" temp regime...I won't even wish for slightly below normal, as that seems so unrealistic anymore.
