  1. That's just crazy that there is still that much foliage on the trees there! I am returning from Tennessee today and even there the trees were almost all entirely bare. I guess those mild nights with barely any radiational cooling keeps the leaves on longer in NYC. They have had numerous nights in the 20s where I was in TN.
  2. I was wondering about that. Boo. I have been checking on Syracuse webcams and it seems like the only thing today's snow is doing is melting what little there was left from yesterday. Such is life in the enhanced maritime climate of the lower elevation lake plain.
  3. Full on sunshine and 50 degrees here in Kentucky. We will probably be running into that lake enhanced snow around Buffalo this evening.
  4. Friend in Bville sent me this picture a little bit ago of our snowcover there. Big numbers.
  5. Evening runs looking even more pathetic for CNY snowfall the next few days. I thought I would come home from Tennessee with the ground completely covered and a winter wonderland. Not looking like that now.
  6. Back to hoping on lake effect after a synoptic trolling? Risky. Many of the models are trying to show some enhancement along the south shore though. So who knows... Oh, And the Sizzle is already several degrees above forecasted high and everyone else. For a place with lots of different weather, it sure is predictable.
  7. NW Pennsylvania has had a very wintry start this year. Many snowfalls already. Looking good for another one...and Buffalo looks to join in this time! Some of the models look to be enhancing precip along the NY lake plains. We shall see...
  8. Definitely not double digit. One fluke event that delivered a nice snowfall. Unfortunately it melted within two days with the normal Sizzle. But, that's to be expected in November. Back to the normally scheduled program. 4 to 6 inches expected yesterday and webcams show grass with a light dusting. Yikes. As we all know, lake effect can be fickle.
  9. A HUGE NW wind lake effect fail and a dying system that delivers maybe an inch to CNY? Then it all melts when the temp bounces to the 40s the next day? Oh, look, the winter of 20-21 has returned.
  10. I like to look at this one too... (Scroll to bottom) I should have moved there... https://springvillecc.com/
  11. They ALWAYS downplay snow totals. But, it's the better route to go with how things have set up the past couple years. Plus, strong winds rarely allow for good LES, especially closer to the lake as everything gets blown overhead and way inland.
  12. Congrats and enjoy! I really need to move to a higher elevation... But you might want to check on the spelling of your community.
  13. Are you surprised? Higher elevations have snow this morning. The maritimes of Upstate? Nassomuch....Lake effect looks way less impressive. My guess is strong winds will shred lake effect as well. Windy days are rarely a good thing for LES. I am actually glad I am in Tennessee today so I don't experience a disappointment. Hoping to come home to snow on the ground Sunday.
  14. While the airport is at 50, it looks like our area in Northern Onondaga county is remaining in the low to mid 40s. I have seen that happen numerous times , especially in winter. The snow cover/retention is MUCH better in our communities than Syracuse itself.
  15. There's a couple guys on here that enjoy the hot tub while it's snowing outside. I've done it before... it's relaxing and then exhilarating. It's part of your hazing process to life in the Great Lakes...lol
  16. I forgot to mention that by far the most frustrating thing about living in this area if you're a cold weather person is the southerly winds that torch Syracuse. See today for example...39 degrees....the second the wind shifted from the south, there is a 5 degree...10 degree spike in temps. Drives me bonkers. I hate having the mountains directly to the south, as they lead to downsloping. If there's a southerly wind, you can almost guarantee Syracuse becomes the sizzle capital of Upstate New York. (As is the case today.)
  17. Hey, Jeff! They take fantastic care of the roads here. Something I found amusing when I first moved here is how almost everybody stakes their driveways so the plows don't destroy their yards. It also lead to the excitement of my first winter knowing that "there is enough snow here to actually need stakes so you can find your driveway." Despite the past couple Winters being sort of disappointing, there have still been weeks where having the stakes have helped. The sweet spots vary based on wind direction and speed. Some Winters are better for different areas depending on the pattern and if the same flow keeps setting up. Our area of the county from Baldwinsville to Clay to Cicero does the best in general... especially since we can get the remnants of strong Westerly bands as they shift on a WNW flow. We do the best from Multi-lake connections (when Huron and Georgian Bay add extra juice) and from lake enhanced snows when Lows sit off the New England coast. Alberta clippers can add fun as well. These have all been generally lacking though the past couple years. Hopefully that "pattern" breaks this year. Regardless, you will find it much more snowy here than New York City!
  18. YES!!! When I lived in West Michigan, we would get them with cold Alberta clippers on a SW flow off the wide part of Lake Michigan. They were the heaviest and most enjoyable snowfalls of Winters there. I know you guys rock them on NE flow and Syracuse cashes in on NW flow with those Retrograding Lows. But, you and I can both often enjoy them in some form at different times of an event.
  19. You can actually see how the snowpack is refrigerating the Bville area. 31 to 33 degrees.. Love it!
  20. When we left Baldwinsville at 2, there was still a solid snowcover despite temps in the 40s and full sunshine. So, might be a White Thanksgiving, at least to start, for some of the Syracuse area.
