Not to be a dick, (but I guess I will be) but maybe take some day trips to WaWa or something until the wifey can ski every trail then blow the dough up north.
-
It wouldn't need to be until March. Just late JAN. December is just tougher than it used to be. Grandpa says he used to go ice fishing the day after Thanksgiving back in the day, all the time.

Yeah and it wasn't a great winter as a whole. We're talking a whole season. Sure we had good stretch of 5 weeks, but the rest was poo Doo. Now bring that stretch from 12/7 to like 1/7 and we're in business cuz the pack would last until napril.

Where are all the ACATT folks?

Yeah but you agree with me on meteorological winter. Wolfie is still stuck in the stone age thinking winter starts on Christmas. I'm not saying it won't snow in morch, it certainly does. The point is we all just want seasons in seasons for it to be a primo winter.

Meteorological winter starts Dec 1 and ends Feb 28. So by mid January we've lost over half the winter. So our panic is justified.

New England Met Winter 2022-2023 Banter
Whineminster replied to HoarfrostHubb's topic in New England
Yeah and his family let him go even though they knew he was inexperienced, probably tried to talk him out of it, but either way must feel terrible. @Volcanic Winterhigher summits forecast from the Mt Washington observatory is a good reference. -
Even then, the pac didn't look good until the events were right upon us. It always looks poopie in weenie range.
-
As good as that was, would have been a lot more cool in December. We got to enjoy the full pack for only like a week after it was over.

Even Wolf man is throwing daggers. You know it's not good when that happens. Justifying a good season by saying it'll snow in February, but 10 hrs north. Hate to see it.

I can't remember once in my 10 years on here where folks have said the pac looks good
-
It's key to remember that one big storm does not mean a good winter. It's all about nickel and dimes and pack.

Might as well give it a shot. Just as long as up north can maybe manage some snow.

Then the cold will come back in April and May to deliver us days of cold gray with occasional meowpaws. How it always goes.....

Wow, nice that it's black. Paradise Pond in LSF was crusty, except for thin part that just froze over... Stayed away from there. Yeah in your area, for sure. I always go out with a spud bar, ice picks, and wear a life jacket early season while I check thickness before setting up. Only way to be safe. Can't just go slap on your skates and beeline it for the other shore like some jabronies.

Got out yesterday, couple medium sized pickerel. 5-6" in most spots, one thin cove we stayed away from. Shallow lake. Deep lakes not ready yet, and this weekend looks hostile unfortunately.
-
I went today in leominster state forest. About 6" in our spot. Sunday when I checked there was one open spot well away from us.

Can we just get some SWFEs and clippers like the days of yore? It's like they aren't part of our climate anymore.
